I am LOSING my mind!!!

OMGosh, y'all. I'm cracking up. Seriously. Some REALLY weird things have been going on around my house and I'm about to lose it! PLEASE someone tell me there's a reasonable explanation for this stuff!!!

--TV turning off and on randomly. This TV is fairly new--like maybe a year old. For the last couple of weeks it will just turn off at the most random times and then will usually turn back on. Not the cable, the entire TV. Several mornings (including this morning) we've gotten up and the TV has been on. It's only the TV in the family room--none of the others have issues.

--Lamps are doing the same thing. It's not just one lamp, it's various lamps, all in the family room. The strangest part is that 3 lamps are on one wall switch. KWIM? But it's only one lamp at a time, usually.

--Toilet flushes on it's own in the downstairs bathroom. I have no explanation for this one. It only started a couple of weeks ago.

--C talks to someone all.the.time. Like entire conversations. I ask her and she tells me it's her friend, but it seems more than an imaginary friend. I've asked her if she can see her friend and she tells me yes, that it's a boy with brown hair. That's about all she'll say--she doesn't like talking about it.

Ok, so I'm sure you guys can come up with some perfectly reasonable explanations. I can't. I'm out. I just know that DH is traveling, I'm nervous, and I have the weirdest feeling. I'm totally on edge here. Help me out?

I think your house is haunted!!!!!!!! lol

We had a light that would turn off & on by itself too- turned out the light fixture was junk. Installed a new light and it didn't happen again :p but that doesn't expain your toilet since they aren't electrical!

I'd probably have someone out to check the electricity and plumbing. If they've got no explanation.... call TAPS. TAPS always says to just talk to the entity and tell them you're not going to hurt them or make them leave. You could try that.

LOL-OMG that's crazy!! I would be totally freaking out!!! Ok, the TV I'd let it go. The lamps, eh, maybe faulty wiring. Toilets, no idea. Brown-headed boy talking to your daughter???? I'd be OUT THE DOOR!!
That is too many things happening at the same time!
I'd have to check it out tho...see if anything happened to anybody that lived in your house before you, call Ghost Hunters, psychic, whatever!!!
Good Luck!!!!!

I would not worry about it. Growing up our tv would randomly turn off and on at the time my dad's favorite tv shows were supposed to be on. He died of a heart attack in our house when I was about 5. There was never any real explanation for it and we had other odd things happen in the house like things coming out of closed cabinets and breaking and cabinet doors being opened when nobody was in the room and volume turning up and down on a tv that had a knob for the volume. My son used to have conversations with his "friend" too where he would say stuff like "No I dont want to" or "You ask her" and when Id ask who he was talking to he would reply "his friend". Another time we took him to the cemetary to put flowers on my neice and nephews graves (they died in a house fire before he was born). Id never taken him with me before and he was to young to really know much and I was talking to him about them and he said that my niece and nephew were his angels. Anyhow I dont think that any of those things can really hurt you but maybe you could do some research on the house you live in? Talk to some neighbors who lived there before you moved there?

Speaking of Ghost Hunters, the deal with the tv could possibly be that someone nearby has a remote that uses the same frequency. It's something I've seen them debunk several times.

AH I love me some Grant and Jason!!! I don't know what it could be besides what others have said. hehe sounds fun though!!!

Okay, I seriously do not believe in the whole ghost thing and am very skeptical of people claiming to have seen ghosts or having a haunted house. But I got chills reading what you wrote about what's happening in your house. And you seem to be a very normal, sane person from what I know of you. I honestly can't think of anything else it could be. I don't know. I am kinda freaking out for you! Sorry, no suggestions here except maybe some serious prayer!

You guys were supposed to make me feel better. *sob* It's dark and late and I'm alone (well, kids are here, lol)...eek. :( I'm not sure how scared I am yet, but I'm afraid I'm going to be later on...ugh, not good.

I've never heard of anything strange in the house before we lived here--like no deaths or anything. The whole thing is just blowing me away because I feel like there must be something totally reasonable to explain each thing away, but so far I'm not getting it.

Yes, Kresta is right--totally pray for us if you don't mind! Especially that I can hold it together while DH is out of town and that we are stay safe.

well I'd say it's some funky circuit wiring issue.. esp since all the lights are from one outlet.. Toilets are insane.. check the floaty thing in the back..
and ce talks to people all the time :p LOL.. just means she has an active imagination and you're reading into everything ^_^

Our last house was absolutely 100% haunted.

I would be doing laundry and the dryer door would shut... Or the TV would turn off, cookies would fall on the floor when no one was around and they weren't near the edge of the counter, and I'd feel a tug on the bottom of my shirt from time to time.

Come to find out through Faith that it was a child... a little girl that was called "Tommie" (Faith swears it was a girl). We just talked about her as if she was a real friend, and I got a lot of information that way. Turns out that she was all alone and wanted me to pay attention to her, since the kids already did. One day she suddenly left and nothing else happened. Faith was a little off and said that Tommie said she didn't want to be friends anymore and that was that. I never found out what happened though.

Abby's had several. We only had to get rid of one, a little boy that would pop up with his mommy.. that clearly had no idea he was dead.

you are not crazy, and it will be okay.

If it was just one of those things I'd dismiss it as just a wonky light/TV/whatever, but in the last few weeks all of those things have been happening? Sounds like some sort of ghost...little boy? Why it'd just start then rather than when you moved into the house is beyond me though...

we had 2 lights that would turn on and off and a computer that did the same. They were in rooms that shared a common wall. One light was in my bedroom and the computer and other light were in my family room. We'd be sleeping and suddenly the light would turn on. It was freaky. I nearly had a heart attack every time it happened. It went on for weeks until I was so sick of it that I had an electrician look at our house. It was a surge thing in our house and they replaced a circut in our breaker box and all was well. :) Don't worry it will be fine. Move your lamps around and see if it happens on different outlets. Call an electrician and set your mind at ease. ((hugs))

part of me is thinking this is really cool, and I wish I could come and see these things for myself. Sounds like it really could be a ghost type of a thing. I can't say that I don't believe in such things...I believe that there are Angels here among us, and I believe there are other things present that could be demonic. I had a recurring dream several years ago, just as I was falling asleep, and I knew something was going on. It would wake me, freak me out and cause me to pray like I've never prayed before!

I totally would not worry though, but that being said...I will be praying for you!!

I just read your entire post to my dh, and all he could say was WOW. I was hoping he'd have some reasonble explanation because he's an electrician, but the three lamps that are on the one switch totally blew him away....and then the toilet...crazy!! What does your dh say?

There's got to be a reasonable explanation. I don't believe in anything, anything so I'm the one here to calm you down. Has your daughter heard you mention this to anyone the lights, tv, and toilet while you were on the phone or talking to friends or whatever?

The fact that it's all in the family room supports the wiring issue, the toilet flushing randomly, you might have some swelling in one of your walls cutting off both plumbing and electricity to some of your downstairs appliances. How old is your house? Even if it's not old these things can happen, if something in your walls wasn't secured properly, it could've eventually come loose and knocked into the plumbing and wiring. Which could be a bad combo of an entirely non-spectral nature.

I grew up in a house with a ghost. Yes. I believe in ghosts. His name is Sylvester and he was the original owner of the house. He would open and shut doors, turn the alarm clocks on and off, turn the radio, tv's and lights on and off but he never bothered us. Never talked to us - even as kids. But we knew he was there. My parents still live in the house and he still shows up around Christmas and his birthday every year.

Sorry it's scaring you Jen!

wow! sorry, i'm a Taps freak so i can't calm you either, lol. the lamps and the tv could easily be debunked but the toilet? i have never heard a toilet flush itself, well, except for the ones at the mall that have sensor that flush when you stand :D

I think that since it's only happening in one room, there has to be a "logical" explanation. I like the idea of taking the lamps into other rooms and seeing if they behave the same way.
You could also be experiencing random surges in the voltage of your outlets. I don't know if it's strange wiring or what, but we have everything important in our house on battery backups that better control the voltage going to the appliances. On a perfectly normal beautiful day, we'll hear them beeping because of surges. That happens throughout the house though, so that's probably not your issue.
Toilets totally do weird things too.

I would get an electrician out there and see what's what.

But I do have to say that as an infant I had a friendly ghost that watched over me in our apartment down in the Da Bronx. The rocking chair in the room was always pulled out and rocking in the morning, when my mom knew she had put it up against the wall at the end of the night. If the room got too hot during the night, the window would be open in the morning, and vice versa if it got too cold. Of course I have no recollection of this, I was just a few months old, lol.

We've had the toilet flush at weird times in the boy' bathroom. We attributed it to bad mechanics and probably a slow leak from the tank. We replaced the hardware and it hasn't done it since.

Last night was ok. C woke up and I went to her room, but that's not unusual. Other than that, all was quiet. DH thinks it is all weird and he isn't sure exactly what to think. The house is only about 10 years old, but he's agreed to call the electrician as soon as he's home to check it all out. Until then, I'm just holding my breath and praying a LOT.

Thanks for all the input!!!

I'm fascinated and spooked at the same time. I had to glimpse out the window to remind myself that it's daytime (like when I watch The Others). I don't dismiss ghosts as a real possibility, but there does seem to be a case for electrical/plumbing/wiring issues, too. Good luck identifying the problem!

One of our toilets flushed on its own due to a messed up valve. But it was kinda nice since it was in the boy's bathroom and they never remember to flush.
