So I've been inspired by all the birth story layouts I've been seeing in the gallery. Thought I should get my kids' stories down before I completely forget all the details. :blink:

I have 13 ultrasound pics for my first child, all nicely put away in an album.

I don't think I can find even one u/s pic for my second child! And I know I had several u/s done . . . :unsure:

who knew that child 2 would start getting short-changed, pic-wise, in utero!
 
I'll join you for terrible mother.... I have 2 boys, one is 16 and one is 4... I have barely scrapped either of their infant pics. :(

I need to get Dani's new kit and play with it. It is just so perfect for the baby story. :)
 
lol, that's too funny! But I always say that the first child has very little to actually do with the child and a lot more to do with the mother. You know, you're becoming a mother for the first time, experiencing pregnancy for the first time...it's a lot of firsts for you.

so swipe a couple of your first's u/s and make a page about your second. Make sure the date isn't visible, though. ;)
 
Count me in - with my first, I wrote down all the firsts and their dates, and had them in albums. With my second, everything is just hastily blogged, written somewhere and all the others are still not in albums (and to think I was already involved with scrapping then! LOL)
 
I'm so with you. I have a beautiful album finished for my 1st son, but my second has nothing. He is now 3 and is beginning to realize he doesn't have a baby album....it's now at the top of my to do list!
 
OK for my first I did the "Studio Pictures every three months until he was a year old, then every six months....my second has maybe 3 studio pics and my twins have maybe 2......I did the oldest one's baby book to the hilt, the second one has a few pages done and the twins - NADDA!!!!! I am so bad too......
 
Isn't it funny, sounds like we are all so alike.

With my first dd, I took her each month to get her picture taken. With my second, I took him twice. My third has gone once (she's two now). I'll have number four in about eight weeks and I'll be surprised if I ever take him:unsure:

When I was PG w/#1...i actually had a pregnancy journal. Unfortunately I kept that at work (DH's office) and I never printed or transferred it anywhere and they switched out computers when I was home w/my 1st lol. But w/my 2nd I didn't even do that :(


But you know what...a long time ago I've given my permission to do (document) whatever. If you look at my LOs, they are just capturing parts of real life. I don't have the typical birthday photos/LOs or the typical milestone LOs. At least they'll know that the photos I took and LOs I scrapped were because they were really special moments to me and not just because that's a moment that ought to be scrapped in some list of things that must be documented and remembered.

And even though my girls are gonna have SO MANY LOs on them lol, it wouldn't surprise me if there are some complaints. "I wish you..." "how come you didn't..." That's just human nature. I know I won't please everyone...so I'm just pleasing myself now and scrapping what I want to scrap haha. And as long as I just do the best that I can (that includes outside scrapping and life documenting)...that's all I can do. Does that sound selfish or what lol.
 
I only got one u/s with each of the kids, 3 pics of each. My FIL ruined our pics of Mason the same day they were printed...he held it up to the light to see it better and it was heat sensitive paper, it blackened it so much you can't really see the pics. I did scrap them still, though.

Natalie's pics turned out AWFUL...hers are lost somewhere, but I can't look at them, she was turned in a really weird way and she looks like an alien. They're creepy. LOL!

As for actual photos...it's really sad. Mason got them every 3 months for the first 2 years of his life. Natalie got pro photos taken when she was 3 months old...and not again until she was 2.5!
 
I'm pretty sure this happens to ALL moms. I went through about 10 boxes of photos 2 weeks ago starting with my birth. TONS of pics for me....not so much on my sister. My brother got pics cuz he was the first boy.

I'm like Karen though. Long ago I gave up on forcing myself to scrap all our vacations, all the events, every picture. I scrap what I want, what moves, and a lot of times, what matches a kit I want to use, lol. I have a few favorites that get scrapped over and over, their like staples. But you can bet ppl looking at my albums will know they were special to me.

Try not to feel bad, just scrap for the love of it :)
 
if it makes any of you feel better... I only have (and will only have) one kidlet and I NEVER did ANY of the "first time mommy" things.. LOL My kid is going to be severely lacking in all those "precious" details. Never kept a baby book.. I do have an u/s pic but I didn't protect it so it's all red and blurry now.. etc etc. So don't worry.. They won't hate us for it ;)
 
Okay, we all suck LOL. No, of course, we don't. But I do want to scrap their birth stories.

you know, I have to keep reminding myself that I don't have a baby book and I don't hold it against my mom . . .

but my 3yoDD . . . well she found her big brother's album with all his baby pics and she kept pointing to all the pics . . . "who's that?, who's that?, who's that?" And they're all Henry. :unsure:

Oh, I hunted around and did find some ultrasound pics of DD. So I will be uploading those and a bunch of baby pics of DD to Shutterfly and just make a photo book for her. In a few years I may get around to scrapping them :p .
 
See, mine seems to be the opposite. I was just getting into paper scrapping when my first DS was born and I had a really, really crappy 1.5 mp camera. So, needless to say, most of his photos are not scrappable because the pics are so horrible! I did have studio pics done quite often but my mom always picked these busy backgrounds that are hard to scrap because she paid for most of them.

Now, with DS#2 I have a D80, take TONS of pics of him and even have studio pics done every 3 months - and I pick the backgrounds now... LOL!

I haven't really kept journals for either of them. I'm not sure how old DS#1 was when he got his first tooth, crawled the first time, etc. I know he walked at 10 months 3 days old and I know he did things early for a baby. He was talking in complete sentences at 16 months - and you could actually understand him! DS#2 is 6 months now, hasn't got his first tooth yet, isn't even sitting up on his own yet or any of that other stuff. Guess I should start writing his stuff down but then I would feel guilty for not doing that for DS#1...
 
You aren't a terrible mother at all!! Heck, I have never even seen an ultrasound pic of me or my brother and sister. My mom wasn't so great at keeping stuff like that..it happens. :)
 
I just found Kyra's the other day, when i was going through her baby book. Which has like Nothing written in it. So sad. I wish I could go back and write all the important stuff down but when it comes down to it, does it really matter when they got there first tooth, it just matters that you were there to celebrate each milestone with them and think of how much more we are capturing than the people that dont scrap! LOL
 
don't feel bad ... I don't have my ultrasound pic from my firstborn ... although he has TONS of photos taken of the first, oh, 4 years of life ... until his sister came along! hehee She has a few years of photos. And then there are the last two ... ultrasound pics ... no professional photos ... and the middle boy ... maybe about 50 pics total of the first year of his life. We had all his pictures on our computer that literally had the HD crash and nothing was salvageable.
 
Oooohhhh, I am definatly a bad mom! I have 4 kiddos and #1 has way more pictures than #2. But with #3 we go a new camera and so he has tons of picture for him. BUt I haven't scrapped much of those. #1 has a baby book,no one else does!

I am totally making family books now. It is just easier!
 
I can totally relate...DD has a baby book that went up to 7 years! and there are 8 years between her and her brother{#2}...so I was able to keep up with it...I have to say I have been able to keep up with each of their baby books...I even got Peyton's{#4} footprints in his when he was about 6 weeks old and I took Abby's{#3} baby book with me to the hospital and had them do it right after she was born...as far as keeping it all written down in their books {well not so good :thumbdown: }..I do have it all written down on just plain paper with dates and things but really need to get it into their actual books! One day I will! I actually did a book for DS {#2 child} and did a watch me grow from the time I was pregnant up to 18 months...now have I done much else...NOPE...and I'm like Karen...I scrap what I want and don't sweat it...I still paper scrap so I'm really behind on that! so no worries...there are alot of us there with ya! and my mom didn't even have a baby book with me!

I don't have ANY baby photos of my 2nd and 3rd kids. We move a lot (military) and I've lost or misplaced SOOOOOO many photos.
Its depressing because I don't remember what they looked like as babies. :(
 
I can relate on the moving aspect! I have been in the Navy since 1991 and am not really sure where all of DD's {#1} early childhood pics are...I think in abox buried in my garage!

awww, maybe one day you'll open up a box and find all sort of photos
 
I have lost the physical copies of my daughter's ultrasounds (but luckily I had them scanned so we could send them to relatives - so I still have the digital copy which is really all that matters anyway!) so I scanned my son's right away. Just finished scrapping with my son's but never did do my daughters. I really should! Yikes!
We will ALWAYS be behind in scrapping. If we arn't behind in scrapping, we're spending too much time scrapping and not enough time living. Don't feel bad... your kids will have beautiful albums and will always know how much they were loved, even if you lost a few photos!

That is the story of my 4 kiddos as wel! LOL Although, while the earlier kids have tons of portriats done, they have hardly any snapshots aound ther house, and my 4th has a gazillion, she was born post-digital camera, so I was able to take lots more of her at home, the 1st threaa were all born before I even owned a camera!
