How?

Hello, I am not a digi scrapper for a long time. I think I have made about 10 layouts now. But I am wondering something: I save my files as psd files so that I can change them when I want. But some layouts I've made are 700mb large. You can understand that my poor pc needs to think very long.

If I save as jpg....they will be unusable....but in the end, how many of you change their layouts later on? I print mine on 8inch for a binder. After that I don't open them on my pc anymore. So a jpg should be fine in my opinion.

What would you advise?????

once I double check my journaling/spelling etc.. I delete my psd's :) my computer can't handle it either ^_^

Once I print my layout, I delete the layered file and just keep a 12x12 flattened .jpg in case I ever want to print one again at any size.

If you'd like to be able to keep your layered files for a little longer and are using a Photoshop product (not paint shp pro), you can convert your layered files to .tiff files and they are much smaller (sometimes more than half the size) and are the same quality. Just do Save As>Name your file>Pick .tiff in the drop down, and when prompted by the pop up, choose LZW, PC (or Mac), and Zip then save :) You'll still have your layered file accessible as long as you need it and use up much less space.

Others burn their layered files on to DVD's or CD's to store.

the only thing I save as Psd files are my templates. The only time I save a layout as a regular PSD file is if I am not finished with it, once I am satisfied with it, I save my printable version as an adobe pdf file (only because I know it is the easiest way to have it print at the size I designed it). If I plan to share my files on line, then I save it at 72 ppi and usually 500x500 pixels, once I have uploaded my images, I delete the 72 ppi files from my computer. If I need to recreate them, I always have my pdf file I can go to, :)

That is just my system, there really is no right or wrong way to do something. Hope my ideas may have helped, :)

I never go back and change anything... Even typos.

I also need to learn how to DELETE those pesky PSD files...

I save all my PSD files, but I'm reallllllly thinking I should stop doing that, lol! I have so many of the pesky things, and I have NEVER EVER re-opened one. I save them all as the full size (12x12) and then delete that version when I've had it printed. But wow... what a pain when I want a layout reprinted!

I think I'm going to have to re-evaluate my saving system too!

First I save my layered template in tiff (smaller files) and once I've print my layout (I do Photobooks) I just keep my flat JPG

Now you know that isn't true...you've opened them to change the journaling on them so I could put them in my own kids' books! ;)

I save my PSD's too but on an external hard drive (well I first save them on my computer and then back them up at random intervals, then delete them off my computer).

I'm too paranoid that if I delete the PSD's something will happen where I need to open them back up. I *do* screw stuff up quite often - dates, journaling, etc...

Me too...but I am glad that more experienced digi-scrappers have thought of this topic too :)

My layouts are too flat I was commented....so I am trying some shadows now. Glad that I saved them uptill now, hahaha. But no, in the end I will delete them. I rather open a scrapbook with prints then wait 5 minutes for PSE6 to open the file on the computer. That alone is a reason for me to delete them!
