How often....

So here's a question for you guys... when you buy kits, how often do you use them? Do you use them just once or twice, then forget about them? Do you tend to use the same fave kits again & again?

I find that because I have a very limited scrapping budget (like buy 1 kit a month type of budget), that I really study the kits to see if I can use them all the time. For example, I'm not tempted to buy a "theme" kit that I know I can only use with certain type pics. I need a versatile kit that I can use for boys, girls, vacations, everyday pics, etc.

I used to be really bad about not reusing my kits....but now I make myself do atleast two layouts per kit...sometimes I do more though...and then I always go back to the favorite bits and pieces later!

I have a ton I have never used at all, and right now, I mostly only do 1 LO per kit because I'm not scrapping as much as I'd like. I am hoping now that skating has finished, I'll have more time to dig in and get more scrapping done. I feel it's a waste if I'm only using them once, so I have to get better about that.

eh depends.... I'll usually only use the papers once, but I'll usually mix in the embellies a lot if I like them.

I think the most I have ever used a kit is for 4 LO's, but I have lots that I've used 2-3 X's.
I use embellies a lot of times over and over...
I have recently deleted kits that I never used and now try and scrap with every single kit I buy, before I buy from that particular designer again.

I think what helped me start using my kits more was this: I was about 19 weeks pregnant when I decided to do a pregnancy album. I had done a 4 week page with my pos test and a 5 week page, then got really sick and quit. I was about 19 weeks when I came off of my infusions and wanted to scrap.

Soo....I was 15 weeks behind! I was able to find stock photography to fill in the weeks that I was without belly shots or u/s pics...but now I needed LOTS of scrap supplies. Since this was the first book I ever created where I knew things were going to be on the lefthand side and on the righthand side of my Shutterfly book, I was conscientious about what things would look like together. On all of my other books, I just drag and drop pages that don't clash when I'm putting together the album. This time I had to be careful AS I was making the album since the pages had to go in order. SO, I'd buy a kit and use it for both pages that would be next to each other...even though it wasn't really a 2 page layout. That made it easier for me to get more use out of the kit! :)

Jae, you know me...I use them ONCE...if at all! LOL! Probably 95% of the kits on my EHD have never been used, lol.

Yeah I know... LOL! This was a post for you to get your bum in gear to use them more, hahahah! Of course it helps when you get lots of them for being on CT's! If it only gets used once, it's served its purpose, kwim?

Sadly I have a lot of kits I've bought and never used. I don't usually use an entire kit more than once but I will use bits and pieces more than once if I really like them.

Sadly, not more than once usually. I have way more kits than I'll ever use (so why do I keep buying:confused: )

That is what I keep asking myself. And usually as soon as the paypal payment goes through, I am filled with much buyer's remorse.

But the challenges here help me to at least use my SSD purchases w/in a week  .

I have made a rule that no more buying scrap kits until I have used everything I have at least once... I did okay for a bit but this past week I gave in to temptation and bought one. EEK!!

I try to use mine more than once. I seem to use them lots when they are new, and then I forget about them

It depends for me. Sometimes I find something that really just clicks for me, and I will use it repeatedly (Traci's "Urban Vintage" for instance). But I also DEFINITELY have kicks that I've loved, HAD to have, and then never actually used.

I'm trying to get better at it though. Like this month, I want to get at least half of my sweet rewards points NOT from new releases, to try and force myself to use some of those kits I otherwise would just let sit around collecting digi-dust :p

It all depends! I have tons of kits I haven't touched yet but then there are some I tend to keep going back to to use an element, etc. out of!

^^ i feel the same way. i have kits that i LOVE and then i have kits that i bought with big plans, but haven't touched them. and i'm with col. i'm gonna use the stuff i bought AGES ago. and not all of the new releases. cause i have lots of stuff to use. and don't want to waste it all.

I always use a kit more than once. Sometimes, it's just a lot of elements on different pages, sometimes entire layouts using that kit alone - four or five sometimes! I am with you - I have to use a kit a lot because I have a teensy weensy budget. :( I don't have a lot of kits, so I don't usually forget about them. When you only buy one kit and maybe an element pack a month, it's easy to keep track of. :)

now that I am on a scrappin budget, I try and reuse the kits I get as much as I can! But come the 7th, I am going to buy lots, and save lots too, LOL!!!

Not often enough! I have a "need to use" folder of new stuff, but it just keeps getting bigger instead of smaller.

Jae, you know me...I use them ONCE...if at all! LOL! Probably 95% of the kits on my EHD have never been used, lol.

This is so me - I also quilt and have a HUGE stash (thats a quilt term) of fabric - and I have a huge stash of kits ~ I think that my mood and the picture determine the kit so I get kits that I might like and we will see ~ If I started scrapping today and scraped every picture I have - I will probably have kits left over -

Well I try to use kits at least twice for CTs I am on but I have tons of kits I have bought and never used yet. I also have elements I use over and over again so I guess you can say I'm a mixed bag! :)

About 6 months ago I decided not to buy any more kits unless I know I am going to get 2-3 pages with it. I had way too many unused kits on my HD. I have done really well since then. I've used many of the unused ones and have generally managed to get at least 2 pages out of any kit I buy. Plus I use the elements & alphas on other pages as well. The thing that really got me going using kits more than once was at Christmas I did Shimelle's Journal Your Christmas class. I wanted variety but not too much and I ended up using 6-7 kits for 37 pages and it turned out wonderfully.

I cringe to think of all the unused goodies I have. That is one thing I do love about SSD....I do tend to use those things and usually fairly soon after I buy them. The challenges help a lot with that and though I know we are not required to use SSD products for the challenges I do. It just seems right after all the hard work and dedication of the designers here to crank out such awesome stuff week after week, AND also giving such a huge discount off for completing the challenges, etc. It's nice to know that if I concentrate and do my LOs , i can count on a 40% off sale at SSD every month, lol. I do shop waaaaaay to much and have actually recently made myself a promise to go back and use the things I loved but never used.

When I was new to digi I only used kits once. I was too distracted with my new hobby back then, dowloading freebies, buying kits, then forgetting I even had them. Some I didn't use at all.

Now I'm better, I narrowed down which designers I like, what kind of styles I use, which stores I shop from. So I try to use the same kit and try to make albums. I also try to buy one kit from here and use it in several challenges where it counts for 2 points as a new release.

So I feel better with myself, I'm getting more for my $$$, less guilty about buying things I don't use. :)

I'm picky cuz I'm on a budget. I look to see if the kit will be versatile and if it has particular elements that I'm sure to use over and over again
