How messy is your house?

How messy is your house? Obviously this is somewhat of a subjective question, since one person's messy is another person's clean ... but how would you describe the current state of your house (apt, condo, etc)? How much preparation would you need in order to feel comfortable inviting a friend over?
 
ALOT.....actually we cleaned pretty well and had a bday party for Peyton last weekend....but I can't say the WHOLE house is invitation friendly LOL! I just can't manage to keep up....I feel bad cause I don't want the kids to have friends over due to the mess sometimes, but you know what, I didn't care when I was kid and wanted to play with a friend, so sometimes I just don't stress and the kids have friends over anyways (and they always come back so it can't be but so bad LOL)!
 
I try to keep my house clean enough that I'm okay with people stopping by with 30 minutes notice, 2 hrs for overnight guests.
 
Oh gosh... my house is a NIGHTMARE right now. If I were to invite someone over, I'd literally need a full day of cleaning to feel comfortable. I would be SO embarrassed to have someone stop by right now. I've been so covered up with projects lately that I'm lucky just to have clean dishes and clothes. But I'm planning a massive cleaning day in the next week or so! LOL

I bet your houses look a lot better than you think they do! I'm never judgmental when I go to someone's house ... especially if they have kids. Our house is pretty much ready to receive guests all of the time (at least by my standards, which may not be that high, lol ;)) My biggest obstacle is keeping up with mail and that type of clutter. Everything else seems pretty containable to me.
 
I could invite someone and get it in good enough condition by the time they arrived. If it was someone I didn't know well I'd need a little more time to get all the details. But just a friend? Meh- just pick up the shoes and clean the toilet.
 
our house is ALWAYS cluttered. I figure, the floors are usually (pretty much) vaccuumed and swept, the dust is an inch thick, there aren't overflowing dishes in the sink and you can see out the windows. I'm golden. :)
 
Messy always because we have so much home school stuff everywhere all the time. But as far as someone coming to visit? They just have to put up with it. Today would be a good day, though, because I did spiffy up some!
 
I wouldn't need much time at all... I'm kind of a neat freak and I hate clutter so I'm not a pack rat at all. I would just close Cheyanne's bedroom door! :D
 
I like a clean, tidy house... It just feeeels better to me. I like the floors to be cleaned up and toys/everything put back in its place at the end of the day. I was raised by serious neat freaks, though. I am naturally disorganized, and not very detail oriented so I do have a constant battle with mail and a pile of papers to be sorted by the telephone (and school and office area). I keep it clean, but my house wouldn't pass a white glove test. I don't dust often enough, the kids beds are rarely made, and I usually have laundry out in some stage of progress. When I have a friend coming over I usually sweep the floor, quick wipe down the toilets, and finish folding the laundry that's out, etc. and the house is good to go.
 
I am a clutterer. It drives me nuts, but I always have crap out that should not be. Plus I don't make the kid put away his toys every day. We try to clean once a week though and put all that stuff away. If someone is going to come over, I would need an hour to be happy and a half hour to be comfortable.
 
I could get by with about an hour of clean time to see a guest. Which is normally what we do. "Oh, you're coming over?" Click. EVERYBODY CLEAN!! LOL.
 
My house is a disaster right now. I feel like lately we are only home to make a mess...and then are running to work, beach, shopping, etc. We are also tearing apart the kids toy room, but haven't quite finished it yet, so there are bins of toys everywhere in the house as we try and organize it all.

I would LOVE to hire someone to do a good clean and build/install some organizational shelving, bins, etc to help us find a way to make things easier around here. Or just move and start over. lol
 
Lets just say this - everyone who knows me knows that you DO NOT EVER just stop by my house unannounced.
 
Our house is always clean. We don't have kids. :)

I love doing laundry and making things clean - mild OCD has its perks. I don't spend a lot of time making things tidy, but I hate unannounced guests. Hate them. We both work from home and people don't understand that boundary. They just call or come over whenever because we're "home."

I'm always very understanding of my friends with kids. They're always apologizing for the state of their home. As long as it's not nasty with 2-week old food all over the place, no one should apologize for anything.
 
I could handle an unannounced guest usually. Connors room is always unsatisfactory but that's why he has a door :p close that and my house looks great lol. If you give me more notice ill do a quick vacuum/sweep but the house is perpetually getting cleaned so its never a big deal. More so my problem is that I'm not dressed nor wearing a bra :p
 
My house is never clean to my satisfaction. I might be a lil OCD when it comes to cleaning.

Lauren, I used to have the problem with not being dressed and no bra so I bought a bunch of pullover bras that I wear under my pjs. I wouldn't go to Wal-Mart in them but I'll answer the door :p
 
Depends on where we're talking. The main floor of the house starts and ends each day relatively neat. The kids have to clean up the playroom right before bedtime, and I make sure the kitchen is clean after dinner. But I'll admit that my standards aren't high. There's always some clutter on my desk and in one section of the kitchen counter, and even when things are put away it's all visible (lots of open shelves). If I'm folding laundry it's on the dining room table for a day or so.

The bedrooms? You don't want to know. We try to get them all cleaned up every weekend, but the boys can make an awful mess in their rooms in between.

We rarely have unplanned guests other than some of the kids' neighborhood friends. Some days we wouldn't need any notice, other days an hour would be good.

one thing I am very lucky to have an upstairs and downstairs.....but seriously with 4 kids an umpteen pets, and 2 parents working full time and the youngest with Autism, sometimes just getting out and back in to bed is all I can strive for LOL!

Our house suffers from a serious lack of closet space. For years DH and I talked about getting someone to come install a ton of shelving or build closets, but we never really did anything about it. Then we found the Expedit bookshelves from IKEA, and they've been a lifesaver for us. We have 2 huge ones in the playroom, another as part of my desk, and a smaller one right next to the door that we all use as cubbies for backpacks, papers, things that need to be dealt with, etc. We're finally able to sort of stay on top of the messes and clutter now.

In the middle of redoing the playroom, when we first put everything inside the shelves:

I don't think I have a photo of the cubbies.
 
Right now my house is pretty rough. I could get the house visit ready (for a quick visit, nothing over night) in 30 minutes or so, but that also means closing a few doors. If I wanted someone to have access to the whole house then I'd need at least a week of full time cleaning in order to have it to my standards.

I have HIGH standards. My house will NEVER be to my standards. I don't think it is possible. I want perfection. Because I strive for perfection, I will spend 4 hours scrubbing one little area of the house and then realize that while I was so hyper-focused on one area the kids turned a tornado loose in the rest of the house. It never happens that it all gets cleaned up at once. We tend to do a run through and get everything straightened up, but it is never truly clean the way I want it.

I'm with Jenn... just move and start over... ;) I wouldn't be happy though unless I moved in to a brand new house custom built to my specifications and then ONLY brought the absolute essentials with me so that I couldn't clutter it up. LOL
 
It is not too bad at the moment...it would probably take me 30 minutes to run the vacuum and clean the bathrooms, but they are clean enough to pass inspection....say it was a MIL coming over! LOL. My whole house is visitor friendly....main floor, upstairs and basement!!!!

I just did a deep clean last week while the boys were away!!!

Those are what I need for my craft room upstairs. I am starting from scratch in there and have no clue which way to go. We don't have an IKEA anywhere close, but will have one in 2014 (still 3 hours away, but better than nothing!) and I am so excited about that!
 
I could have someone walk in right now and the only thing I'd be worried about would be my braless state! Haha. It's the perk of being a neat-freak without children.
 
Our house is cluttered, but not really dirty. As long as I check the bathrooms before someone uses them I don't care when people came over. I figure most of us are not super neat so I don't really feel the need to spend lots of time trying to convince people we are...
 
Now that I've started school full time my house is not as clean and it's making me crazy!!! The downstairs is okay (but I could clean it up in five minutes) but my girl's rooms are another story! YIKES!!!
 
I'm living in a 28 ft travel trailer right now and it takes me all of 1/2 hour to clean the entire thing. LOL!! I gotta say I can't WAIT to move into our house next month and have a messy house. LOL!! Okay, not real messy, but normal life again. :)

^^^^ Hahaha - this is my worry too :) I work from home and sometimes I only change from PJs to sweats in the cooler months. Thankfully I very very rarely have anyone who comes by unannounced... I'll at least get a text letting me know someone is on their way and I can run and change :D
 
Oh, my house is a disaster right now... we have been talking about moving, so I have been going through everything... every closet and corner... sorting and getting rid of... however, if you would ask my mom - my house always looks like a disaster... :o

I'd need at least 48 hours to get ready for guest... and then they won't be allowed in my bedroom and surely not in the basement!

Hubby would like the next house to be two stories just to help contain the clutter to the second floor... I actually hate clutter, but I just can't keep on top of it - so either get a bigger house with CLOSETS or get rid of a lot of stuff...
 
That question fully depends on the state of wellness in our house. Pregnancy makes everything a disaster and it takes about six months to recover. Them add a kid that's sick once a month and it's really a roller coaster. At our "normal" I like an hour, but I can do it in a half an hour if I put the kids in front of the tv instead of having them help.
