How do you wash...

your swimwear?

I know I should handwash them, but it honestly never seems to get the chlorine/suntan lotion/saltwater smell out of them.

So I pretty much put them in the washer and let them air dry.

Just curious if anyone uses anything that gets them smelling clean without running them through the machine.
 
You can do a vinegar soak, Tracy. Once it dries, you can't smell the vinegar. I just toss mine in the wash. I air dry it, but I never make the time to hand wash it.
 
Machine wash gentle with vinegar in the wash if I have it (I ran out of vinegar and haven't been using it for 2 weeks, honestly haven't noticed a difference). We have been using our swimsuits so often that I have been tossing them in the dryer, too, tumble dry low.
 
My washer has a swimsuit cycle (just a rinse and spin) but I usually end up throwing them in the wash (mostly because my kids don't sort them out) and then air dry.
 
Wash with regular wash and air dry - although honestly we don't wash swimsuits very much, we just let them dry outside & re-use.
 
Throw them in the washer & then the dryer with everything else. I use vinegar with my normal washing so they get it too.

I don't air dry anything if I can help it, though more often than not the boys just hang their wet suits up in the bathroom & they only get washed when I think about it.
 
Thanks everyone. I'll try the vinegar next time. I usually only use that in the cycle with towels. Sounds like no one really does a hand wash anymore...Ain't Nobody Got Time for That!
 
We wear ours about 5 times a week so at the end of the week I just wash them normal with the beach towels and throw them in the dryer too. They need a good clean and fluff!
 
I just handwash mine in cold water with soap, usually letting them soak for a while so I can preserve the integrity of the fabric. I always check to make sure I've gotten all of the chlorine out before taking them out to dry. I have some suits that are > 10 years old that are in still in good condition.

Exactly! I throw them in the wash with vinegar (which I use on all the kids' loads), and then I'm about evenly split on how often I machine dry vs. air dry.
