How do you scrap?

Just wondering what everyone else does. Do you have photos in mind and then find kits that work with them, or do you choose the kit first, then the photos? Or do you get really great kits and then take photos just to match them?

Since 99% of my LOs are for CT stuff, I start with kit then find a photo to use with it.

If left to my own devices . . . I get nowhere b/c I don't know where to start :D.

I usually add the picture at the very end...I usually know what picture or at least series of pictures I'm going to use...or if it is going to be one of my boys or my nieces...but if I add the photo first I always get blocked.

I always add a place for the picture but something about the picture being there is more than my brain can handle.

This is exactly what I do too. It drives me nuts to have the picture there too early on.

Interesting...wonder if I should try another way. I usually start with the pic and then go from there...but I normally have no plans (other than pic and kit) and I just go with it.

Maybe I'll try it without a pic...

If I am doing it for myself, I do it chronologically I pick picture, then kit...

I have done challenges and when I do those I pick kits, then pictures.

so far I start with a set of pictures, then find a template that works, then pick a kit, but I am still starting out so that will probably change around once I finally build my stash! :-)

When I paper scrapped I would often take pictures FOR some new thing I just bought, I would dress my family to match the paper! Guilty as charged! LOL

YES to all of the above.. *kidding*

I too start with the kit and usually know what pics I'm going to use

Unless it's a CT LO, I always start with the pictures. Even when I have the kit first and find pics to match, the first thing I do when I open a new file is put the photos in place.

okay, my mind is seriously boggled  by those of you who add the photo last. I remember Shannon saying this before so I tried to do it and it was soooo hard for me.

I usually add the picture last too! lol. Sometimes I do it the other way around, but I'd say at least 90% of the time I do most of the lo before putting a picture in. Sometimes I don't even have a pic in mind until the very end.

I'm with you Mimi. If there's no picture I get SO stuck!

I usually am trying to make CT stuff work with challenge LO's, lol. So I usually start with a kit, find a photo, and go from there.

Sometimes I pick a photo and then a kit to match, but sometimes I get way stuck doing it that way because I can't find the PERFECT kit for the pic.

I almost always start with my photos first, only because I tend to focus my design around it otherwise I either end up doing too much or too little..

Totally agree! I wouldn't know where to start without my photo! LOL!

I just buy whatever catches my eye. Sometimes I will sit on a kit for months until the right pics happen. I have before taken pics the day I buy a kit to go with it!!!

I always used to pick the photo first and then pick my kit to go along with it. That was when I was first starting out and my resources were more limited so I mixed and matched a lot. It seems like now I scrap more within a kit with just a few additions and generally I'll have a kit I want to use and I'll find a pic that will go along with it.

That said, I always place my pic(s) on my page first before doing anything else. I don't know if I could do it the other way around.

Well, when it's time to do a LO I go with the kit first, but I don't start doing any actual LO making until I get my picture.

I cannot even fathom not having my picture there! LOL! That would be so weird for me!

Isn't it interesting how we all have our different creative processes?!

I swing both ways! :w00t:

Sometimes kit first sometimes photo first. Yes I've been known to "stage" a photo or two!:D:D

I always feel stuck when I start a page with a photo and no kit. It takes me forever to pick a kit based on a photo. So normally I start my page then when I've done all I can without a photo, I go find one or two that work. It all sort of comes together after that.

Recently I typically start with the kit, get the creative juices flowing with my favorite papers and elements and then choose a photo and photo treatment that goes with the design I'm creating. I used to scrap photo first, but my process has changed a bit.

I organize my digital pictures by month on my computer, so I go through the month and copy the pictures that I want to scrap and put them in a folder on my desktop. That way, I always have an assortment of pics that I want to scrap. Sometimes I pick the pic first, or sometimes the kit first, but the photo is always the first thing I put on the page! I wouldn't know how to do it any other way!

Shannon get out of my head!

I almost always start with a topic. Sometimes the topic is inspired by a kit, sometimes by a photo or sometimes I have a topic and then I find or take photos to go with it. It just depends I guess. I've occasionally done a page without the photos being in there right away but even then I always have an idea of exactly which photos I'm going to use.

I totally agree, Tracie! This was really fun knowing how you all have your own unique way of creating those fabulous pages that I see in the gallery!

Most of my LO are for CT's so usually I have a kit I need to work with then I get a picture and most of the time try to make it work for a challange.
