How do you organize your printed layouts?

I've wanted to really sit down and organize my layouts before it gets TOO out of hand and was looking for some ideas of how you all do this.

I've done a handful of Shutterfly/Artscow books, but the bulk of my pages are printed at Costco and put into regular albums. I was doing just a Jan-Dec Family book, but now I'm not sure if I should break it down a little more...

I have a bunch of albums for different things like Kristen, Kaylee, DH & I, Holidays, Friends & Family, etc.

I've got more albums here than I know what to do with (seriously, lol...I think I've got 18 8x8's and 3 6x6's)...but anyhow, some of them have layouts in them. I've only printed 30 layouts so far, I need to send away files for 40 more. But this is my system:

general family (layouts about our family as a whole)
Mason
Natalie
family vacations
Mason's Disney album
Natalie's Disney album
family Disney album
nieces/nephews

Hmmm I guess I might need to actually inventory my layouts ha! And then determine if there's enough for me to break them into smaller parts... I like the idea of smaller more specific books, but not sure how or where to start.

Ditto...but only with my own kid's names :D

I also print books every once in a while for special occasions like Christmas, baby books ect.......!

I'm also not a chronological scrapper or printer...I just scrap what I want and then I print it and stick in the appropriate album.....nobody seems to care!!!

I'm in the Stacy Julian/Library of Memories camp. I have mine broken down like this:

All about Us
Friends and Family
Places We Go
Things We Do

I have divisions within each album, but that's the basic structure.

I'm also not a chronological scrapper, so I just put the printed layout in the appropriate book/subdivision. From time-to-time, I rearrange the LOs within a subdivision chronologically. But, I can do that because I use 3ing Binder type albums.

I organize my layouts based on Stacy's Library of Memories system too. You can see a more detailed explanation of my setup (with pictures!), in this post at DST. I don't scrap chronologically at all so this works well for me.

I do it by year. I toyed with the idea of theme...like Stacy Julian's themes, but it's not in me. I have to store them chronologically. So I have been doing 3ring binders up to this point so that I could add as I print, no matter what time of the year it is...and have 2 per year.

From 2009 on, I'll be doing photobooks from Jan-Jun/Jul-Dec.

Thanks Lynette for that link. Lots to think about and your albums look great. I've done chronologically the little ive done so far and I don't know if I could get my brain to think in those terms. Ill have to pick up the book and read more about it.

Darcy - I'm curious on the move to photobooks for this year. Do you scrap chronologically to have that done? I do like the quality of the books, but have already had a page torn out of one of my books :( I still need to reorder that book...

I am not a chronologically scrapper but I have found over the last 3 years that it is easier for me to organize finished pages by the photo was taken. And it is kinda fun to see the passage of time.

I print a book of the pages that I do in that year. It is fun to have older times with new stuff.
A picture of a teenager doing his hair so perfectly next to the same child with the worse hair cut in the
world~it brings him down a peg or two for a moment. ;}

I have a folder of chronologically organized LOs of our family. I have an AAM folder where I also put LOs I make about my hubby in there. I have an albums folder where specific albums like "Year in Review" or "Project 365", etc. I have a For Others folder of LOs I make for family/friends. Then I have a folder for projects like Recipe Albums, Prayer Book, etc.

I could change my ways of organizing. I tend to do that every so often!

Each boy has their own books...I have 3 boys...so times the below by 3...lol
1) everyday...whatever doesn't fit into one of the books below...
2) school (elementary and middle/high school)
3) cub scouts
4) boy scouts (except for the one that didn't go on to boy scouts)
5) robotics
6) vacation (which up until now only had 2 sets of layouts)

I have for myself:
1) Halloween book (their costumes each year...adorable!)
2) school ... has a 2 page spread of what each child looked like in their official school pic in that GRADE ... so I can see what they looked like in a grade (do they look similar at that age?)
3) cowboy! My boys used to wear overalls, cowboy boots, and sometimes cowboy hats...so all the cute pics from those days
4) family reunions
5) heritage albums (one for each side of my family)

I think that is it...

So many Great Ideas! I went through my book of 2005 yesterday and it was a little over 100 layouts.

After reading all these ideas here, I think I'm going to keep my yearly chronological books and then make duplicates of certain things for specific books. I don't want them completely out of my family book, but I do like the idea of for example, the halloween costumes year by year. that's a cute idea! I was thinking a yearly birthday one as well. I can easily get the minimum 20 for the photobook.

Once I'm full set up as I finish going through 2006-2009 I'll come back and share what I did!
