Homeschool chatter - 3/9

Yikes! I just realized that we haven't started our chit chat yet. We pretty much skipped out on work yesterday and did just the basics today. We're starting African history this week and the books I want from the library haven't come in yet, so we just watched some Nat Geo stuff.

Any big plans this week?

I thought it was weird I hadn't seen a thread this morning!!

We don't really have any big plans - just the normal. I'm excited because my hubby just ordered the Sonlight IG I wanted, so we should be really digging into history better here after spring break next week!

Are you guys taking a spring break? We are taking next week off.

No spring break here because of so many random days we have had to take off.

This week is messed up because Ezra has surgery tomorrow so two of the kids are staying the night at mamaw's. We will see how everyone is doing on Thursday. We will probably do work on Saturday to make up for it since daddy is working. :)

We are taking off this week... kiddo's birthday is next Sunday, so this week is crunch time for getting ready, baking, decorating, etc. Yet - he still had CC today, church classes tomorrow night, dance on Thursday, and violin on Friday... so not a total vacation for him... :)

I went to math class yesterday. Got about 15 minutes out of the kids before they just lost it. The time change has them all crazy! That's a great thing about homeschooling, you can adjust your schedule!

Yeah, today might be one of those time adjusted days. It's 4:30 am and I can't get back to sleep. I tried reading but it only seemed to get me thinking about things even MORE. So I decided to use my Sweet Rewards coupon and do a little shoppin'

We have had a steady steam of family from up north visiting us, so that makes it hard to have a normal school schedule. We are doing math, reading and a little spelling but not much else. Then, Friday we have a science field trip.

We are getting a puppy on Easter weekend, so now I'm not sure we will go to the convention in May after all. It will be hard to find someone to watch her for us when she's only 3.5 months old. So, I'm starting to shop for curriculum online.

We are skipping spring break because I like to have random days off throughout the year and Spring break is usually when I catch up. We usually keep our schedule to DH's schedule, so days he has off, we have off too and he has a few back to back 4 days come up.

Most years we don't take a spring break either - I don't think we've ever taken a whole week. I much prefer to get out earlier at the end of the school year, and the kids like that too. This time it is just because we have a trip planned which really never happens except in summer for us.

Puppy!!!

Well, while I was at the salon Eden did math and 1/2 her spelling on her own. When I got back we finished spelling and did grammar and watched some more of the Africa documentaries till I started nodding off, lol!

He had an oral surgery this morning. We were both super duper nervous but it went well. The anesthesia seemed to be the worst part. Made him super sick afterwards, but luckily I was prepared and had something in the car for him. :/ It was just a tooth extraction because he had a problem with one of his baby teeth going into his bone. No one even knew until they did xays not that long ago. It must not have hurt or anything. He's doing well though. The throwing up has been the worst. :(

I'm so glad everything went well Crystal! I remember when Gavin was 3 and had to have his tonsils and adenoids out - I was a nervous wreck, so I feel for you. It is hard to go through, even if it is a seemingly simple procedure.

It's always so scary!! And all the papers about all the risks freak you right out for sure!!

He's going to be quite disappointed to realize that because he did so well today school will be right back like normal tomorrow lol!

I saw this on facebook and thought of you guys - not history, but this blog is starting to do a africa unity study... might be too young for Eden, though... :)

Poor guy! That must've sucked, throwing up with his mouth all jacked up!

Val, you should have your daughter read this. It was very enlightening for me! Jamesen has some serious food anxiety and this has helped us a lot. I found it last week and this week has been so much better than normal when it came to food!

Oh wow, that is amazing. Out of all the research I've done on this subject I have never come across something that helpful. Thank you SO much for sharing that!

Our kids have been working so hard on the play they are putting on next week. This afternoon is a trip to the river! To just play!

Well, Eden and I went to her friend's 13th birthday party this evening and I made the error of having coffee after dinner. It's 12:30 and I'm still wide awake DESPITE sleep aids.

I'm glad it helped! I've never heard it explained like that either and once Jamesen understood what was happening, it was a lot less scary for him to hear "ok, lunch/dinner time!"

We took Friday off and will be taking monday off too because DH has them off. He throws our school days off so bad when he's home, haha!
