Hey, you doodle designers, question for you..

When you doodle a doodle (lol) do you use one of thos awesome Wacom tablets? or do you do like me (when i feel the urge to make my own) and hand doodle then scan with the printer? The only problem i have with doing it this way is that i have to delete the white background once i have it open on PS. Right now i only have printer paper but im thinking of getting some transparency paper and doing it that way, thus eliminating the white background. Just wondering. I really want one of those tablets, but i just wanna be sure i'll use it, lol.

I use my tablet... I USE to either draw on paper or.. I use to do point to point vectoring in PSP (this is before I started using PS/illustrator/the tablet).

There are two things you can do when scanning in doodles.. Either a) slightly change the levels so it's a pure white and bolder black & turn the doodle into a brush .. or b) use a transparency filter (not perfect) and overlay the remaining image with black to remove any left over white. HTH

If you don't have a wacom tablet there are other ways to get your doodle off the white background.... You could use a selection tool like the magic wand... it will pick up your doodle since the background is white. Then just copy selection to a new layer and delete original layer. Or you could use elliptical marque tool to pick area around your doodle and then create brush from selection... this would give you a lot of versitility with your doodle.... If it's multiy colored you could use levels to create a brush... I can think of several other options as well but just thought I would throw these out there. Don't know if this helps you or not.. but on that note... I do love my tablet...
 
Thanks guys! i do usually just use the magic wand to delete the white part. i'll have to try these different ideas. Someday i'll have to get a tablet...
 
Hey, Corey... I bought a bunch of neon cardstock at Michael's that I use this for backgrounds instead of white... that way I just delete the neon green (or whatever) background. It makes it easier for me to make black and white doodles or colored doodles. Just make sure you don't color with anything too close to the background color.

Plus if you have a plug-in like fluid mask or similar, it makes it SO FAST!!
