help with new camera options

I'd love to find a new digi camera in the black friday sales. I have a Canon powershot that is about 9 years old that I have loved. But I'd like to be able to take shots quicker of my 10 and 12 year old active boys. Any suggestions on cameras you love, or websites for "dummies"? :)

I am a Canon DSLR gal :) I have the Canon T1i and I absolutley  it!!!! but it runs about $800  was a treat to myself for spending 7 months in the desert!

I just spent months shopping for one and reading reviews etc...I really wanted this one:

But in the end couldn't justify the cost.

I ended up buying this one:

My dad has the SX110IS (older model) and I was able to test-drive his camera. My new one just arrived yesterday, so I haven't used it yet, so I can't tell you how I like it yet.

This is a really good website as far as comparing cameras:

Good luck!

Wow thanks so much for all this great info! I'm figuring it will be a $$$ investment, and that's fine as long as I do my research on it first. I really appreciate it!

I think that compared to a 9 year old camera, most new cameras now are going to be a lot quicker. I have a Powershot S3IS (I think) that I use when it's not practical to take my DSLR, and even though it is about 3 years old, it doesn't really have any shutter lag. Just make sure you read reviews, and stay away from the ones that are slow, it will say in the review.

My dad has a Canon Ixus, not sure what model, but it's a few years old, and I really like that too. It's quite small, so it's easy to carry around, and it's quick.

And even though I am a Nikon girl when it comes to DSLR's, I much prefer the Canon point and shoot cameras.

What 'bout me, I have been with OLYMPUS digi cameras as far as i can remember :)

Now I proudly... ehm... own (or share with my DH ;) the SP 590-UZ which has incredible 26x optical zoom. In the US it costs appx. 320-350 dollars, or now even more as few months have already passed since it was introduced.

Check this review out...

It helped me a lot to chose right for this camera and I can really recommend it!

I have both the Canon XTi SLR and the Canon S5 (12x zoom!!!) point and shoot.

I love them both! Now that I've got my SLR everyone wants to know what I'm doing with my "old" camera... but there is no way that I am parting with it. It takes amazing photos at concerts!!

This is such great info. I missed any sales yesterday for a camera but I'm still studying up on everyone's recommendations - ya'll are the best!
