Help with decorating albums

I just switched to these American Craft Modern Albums and I would like to decorate the outside. I have never done anything like this before and was wondering if anyone has an example of what they have done with them.
I would like to do something that would be protected some how. Any help would be great because this is a world I haven't ventured into

Okay, flowers and ribbon would be cute... but how do I put them on and keep them on. My kids handle my books a lot and I need something that will hold up to there little fingers :)

I bought the Cloth albums specifically so I wouldn't have to cover them :D but I know that one woman in the Library of Memories class I took covered hers in oilcloth, which I think is kind of like tablecloth/outdoor fabric? So it's easy to clean should it get dirty. The picture she posted looked really cute!

ETA: She said she ordered the fabric from this store: http://www.denverfabrics.com

I have a 6x6 one that I altered a while back (LOVE AC Modern Albums).
Attach your "cover" to the front with some sort of adhesive. You can use liquid glue, a tape runner, a glue stick, or mod podge. Any of those are fine.
I used a ribbon to wrap around the album at the point where the canvas binding met the paper cover I made. So that's cute. Mod podge or any sort of craft glue will hold that in place, just takes a lil while for it to dry.
Glue dots are awesome for holding embellishments in place.

I would seal the cover with mod podge to seal it. Just create a canvas and decorate it wtih you digi stuff, get it printed (at home or through someone else like shutterfly or scrapbookpictures.com), adhere it, and then seal it with mod podge a day or two later so that the ink has time to cure.

then just decorate to your hearts content :)

It's just like decorating a mini album. Just a little bigger.

Okay... what about around the edges? Has anyone used ribbon around it... or is it best to just leave it as is?

I guess it would be a helpful to mention that I used creative memory albums before this and haven't decorated anything up to this point = )

I would leave the edges alone. No one looks at them anyway.
Or, I would ink or paint them before adhering the cover to it.

I always use Aileen's Tacky Glue (can get it at any craft store or Walmart in the craft section) when I adhere stuff to the front of an album. It holds better than a tape runner, glue dots, etc.... If you use tacky glue, its not going anywhere.
