Help unzipping Mac files in Vista?

I've downloaded several kits/freebies/etc that I can't seem to unzip. I keep getting a message that says 'there is already a file with the same name as the folder name you specified. specify a different name'

It seems like I saw a fix for this posted on a message board somewhere but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help?

Yeah, that happens in Vista... just hit yes to copy w/o encryption and skip for the same file name dialog. After it's unzipped, I delete to Mac folder.

Nope, this is a different message. The ones that pop up like that I can unzip with no problem other than a few more clicks. These won't unzip at all. I don't get the copy without encryption popup, just the other message. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the link and advice though!

Yeah, for that message, select skip... or whatever it is (it might not actually be "skip" but somehting similar... like don't copy). You don't need those files. They are mac files. Just try it anyways and look at your files afterwards, you should still have everything. Sorry, I wasn't really clear before. Hope this helps.

I don't use the Windows zip anymore, only because it can't unzip .rar files which I had some that needed to be opened. I use PeaZip and it never gives me weird messages. BUT before I had that program, I did get the same messages you're getting and was able to skip those messages and still ended up with all my files.

That's happened to me before and I'm not sure why because I had't had any problems with Mac files before in Vista. I was able to unzip the files without any problems using WinRar :)

Thank you thank you thank you! I downloaded a free trial of WinRar and it worked perfectly!!! I'll be buying it before too long.

Thanks everyone!

I used to use Stuffit when I was on a PC and it would open Mac files, and it used to be free but it looks like they charge for it now... Hopefully the WinRAR thing will work for you :) I know I'm one of the problematic Mac girls, but I have no clue about Vista - sorry!

YOu can get the free stuffit expander to unzip files, you just cant use it to do any of the other features the full version has :)

HTH!
