Help! My laptop won't recognize disks...

I have NO idea what I did... or more correctly, what my 7 year old did because he was using the computer last.

No matter what I do, I can't get the computer to recognize or open a DVD disk. I've tried different disks, I've restarted the computer.

The only thing I can think of, is that when I got on to ACDSee last, there was some message about a burner no longer being available, but I just clicked okay and the message went away. I figured I just accidentally hit a button.

I'm so annoyed and now I can't scrap because ALL my photos are on disks!

Erm....I'm not sure. Try googling? There's proably some random setting you have to get to to change....

Oh no! I sooo hope it gets sorted somehow!! I am not much of a computer guru so I'm scared to give advice that might make things worse. GL hon!!

Well, if you know the type of disc drive it is, you could try and reinstall the driver for it, that may help, at least it 's a start.

I think that somehow, the drive got set to be a burner only, or something like that. Because when I restart the computer, I do see the empty drive, but when I click on it, it wants a blank disk to burn.

Ugh... where would that setting be?

there are dvd + (plus) and dvd - (minus).

different formats for different computers. maybe you grabbed the wrong type.

sometimes that can be the issue.

FINGERS CROSSSED.... I think I fixed it!

I did a system restore back to the last update and that seems to have fixed the problem. I *think* what happened was my autoplay options got adjusted.

WHEW!
