Help me, I am so hybrid challenged

I want to do the hybrid challenge in the portfolio because its worth 10 points and because I have a great box to use. it's 8X10.

How do I even start? Will printing out my supplies eat my entire printer cartridge? those things are so darn expensive,

do you get them printed somewhere else?

Do I put together an 8X10 LO, print it and paste it on? or do I print each component individually?

HELP?

Firsly Alisa. Honestly for me printing at a print shop or at home works out roughly the same for me. I prefer printing at home because I can customise and economise where I can. Firstly, make sure that the printer has the correct setting for your paper. Cardstock and plain paper absorbs so much ink so if it is possible use a light background. Photo paper uses more ink but is closer to the colour you see on screen. I prefer fit all the elements onto A4 or 11x8.5 sheet and attach them seperately. but at 8x10 you certainly have the option to print out the entire lo.

I very rarely do altered items so when it comes to glue or hodgepodge maybe one of the hybrid babes can help

Both options you've suggested would work Alisa! Chantal gave you great advice!

Keep in mind that you will use less ink if you print it as and 8x10, rather than in pieces (because all the layers will all be printed seperately). It *may* be cheaper to get a place like Staples or Kinko's to print if you find that you don't get a lot of mileage out of your cartridges (I have an Epson and have printed a TON with the sample cartridges... mine get a lot of prints before running out).

For me, if my box was as big as yours, I would probably print it as a flattened version, maybe printing a few extra embellies (like simple flowers) to add some dimension. Do you have any real supplies (ribbon, flowers, alphas)? Those look great too!

I did my hybrid project last week (haven't posted it in the gallery yet). Like you, I'm a bit hybrid challenged. I printed out the papers I was going to use and all the embellies I wanted. Looking back, I wish I had only printed out the embellies that weren't going to be really difficult to cut out, even with a craft knife. There were some I could have printed out flattened on to the paper and that would have saved me time, frustration, and the cost of having to reprint some embellies. Some had to be printed separately regardless because of their placement on the jar I used (it's not over a piece of paper). I think whatever works for you is what you should do. I have a real respect for all those who regularly do hybrid projects. Hats off to you, ladies!

Yes, it does. When I do hybrid, sometimes I print at home and sometimes at Kinkos depending about how much I need and how much ink I have at home. lol Very cute!
