DH has worked for the same company for 7 years, and after 5 full years (so you're into your 6th year), they increase the paid holidays from 2 weeks to 3 weeks. So, this past year we got an increase in holidays...all the previous years we'd used up our holidays quickly and would be scrambling when it came to the days of in Christmas because they guys got it off without pay.

ANYway...this Christmas was the same thing...DH was scrambling to bank extra hours to pay for the time off, and was going to be 3 days short, which is a mega cut into the paycheck. But, when he got his check, it was a full check, and he wasn't really sure what was up with that.

Today he found out...well...his "anniversary" is January 9 (it used to be April because when Mason got sick, they paid out his vacation time so he could take days off, and then gave him a leave of absence so he could get unemployment). So they recently changed that AND...they must have messed up counting his vacation days because even AFTER they used 3 days to cover what he was missing for Christmas, he's got 3 weeks and 2 days of holidays to use this year (17 days total - a "week" is 5 days because they get weekends off). Apparently they bank vacation time.

DH and I have done the math and KNOW he took 3 weeks vacation last year (because we went to California in April). But...we're not complaining, lol. Usually we have to be so stingy with our vacation days, but not this year! :D

yeah, Des is banking hours too, with all these darn shut downs at the mines. Ugh.

He gets three weeks vacation this year (he's starting his fourth year with Kal Tire), believe me, we will use it this year.

Nice!

I'm very lucky - I get 5 weeks paid time off each year and 8 paid holidays where I work. My immediate supervisor allows us to track OT and then comp out those hours worked extra (since I am salaried, tax exempt and am not allowed overtime *mean company!*).

Because of this comping out of time, I managed to save 6 extra weeks in my bank to use if I ever need them. If I resign and give my 2 weeks, I will collect the money for those 6 weeks in the bank.

Maybe...or to BC...haven't seen that part of the family since summer, and haven't been to their place in almost 3 years!!

That's fab, Bree!!

Andrew's up to three weeks vacation too, but he earns it at a rate of 1.25 days per month. Right now, he owes them vacation time. Blah!

That is great news Bree! My mom has worked at her job for over 20 years and is up to 4 weeks vacation. That plus her sick leaves, she usually has a good week left at the end of the year to take off.
