Have you ever "staged" photos?

We still laugh about a camping trip we took when our kids were younger. We were getting ready to leave the campground to go home and I realized that I didn't remember to take any fishing photos. Probably because they didn't really fish! :). I had my kids hurry and go to the lake and stick their fishing rods in the water so I could take photos! :). They refer to these photos as "the time they didn't fish"! :). Believe me, I proudly scrapped those photos and we still laugh about it!

Oh, absolutely. It used to drive my husband batty, but my stepdaughter was all for it.

These days, I'm more likely to have an event or subject I want to scrapbook for which I have zero photos. What I do is either go out and capture an image that's representative of it, or to download something I can use. (Google Images search is my BFF!)

For example: there's a story my parents tell about being 21 and broke and how much they loved camping in the Black Forest when they were stationed in Germany. And because they had no money, as an infant on those camping trips, I would sleep in the box of Pampers diapers they brought along for me.

With zero photographs of the event, I'd go download an image of a box of Pampers - either modern packaging or circa 1978 if I can find it online - and combine it with a shot of myself at that age.

I'd love to hear how others have staged or found pics to scrap those moments without photos!

Not exactly staged, but I will occasionally clean up the background of my photos- move dishes/laundry out of the way, etc. So if you think my house always looks so clean in my photos- just know that's not real! ;) lol

This made me chuckle! I have become more aware (sometimes!) of what's in the background of my photos and try to at least make it neat. Thankfully it's possible to notice and re-take the photo with digital photos. I have so many film photos when my kids were little, I was working super long hours and the house was a disaster! I guess it just showed that stage of our lives.

I can't remember a time when I staged a photo, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. :D If I looked through my photos I could probably find it.

I definitely staged photos and color-coordinated my kids when they were little.

Now that they are older, I am more likely to "warn" them ahead of time that I will be taking a photo of the event or happening so they can prepare themselves accordingly. :p

I am more conscious now of what is in the background. Also, I sometimes seek to take photos so that I can use kits I like. I spent a bit of time seeking out waterfalls in my area last year.

I’ve been known to do some light staging and re-takes, cleaning up the background, and changing the color of a shirt or two to match a kit!

When we go on outings, I usually know of a shot or two I want and make sure that it happens. They're generally unposed so the only one who needs to run around in a rush is me. I definitely sprinted down a ramp pushing a wheelchair with one hand and opening my camera app with the other to get a photo of my son (and mom) going down the re-entry slide in the space shuttle exhibit at Kennedy Space Center. He can't/won't do it again so I am so glad I got pictures of it for sure.

Having been a designer since Taylor was about 5, yes, some photos get a bit staged... made a football kit for superbowl one year and had her pose with football shaped glasses on... and if I was more awake, I'm sure I'd think easily of a few other times she was posed for a kit coming out.

Oh, I remember the one that I was trying to pull back into my brain. We managed to have her not thinking much of getting a shot at the doctor's office by telling her to make a funny ouch face. Worked like a charm and the photo was great!!!

I

I used to buy my daughter outfits to match kits! ha ha.

LOL I do that all the time!

It’s so hard for me to find photos unless it’s a very specific event and I remember the date. But if I’m looking for the photo of that lavender latte I had one time I could never find it so I just go take a new picture of myself drinking an empty cup of whatever. Lol

So many times… especially if I needed photos for a new release kit. But your story made me chuckle - I had something similar in one of our last camping trips. My son is all about recreating memories of photos taken before- we did the same with fishing… he went fishing at the same lake five years ago, and wanted a photo of him fishing same place, lol
