April 8th!!!! Who will be watching??

I have a question... this was a book, correct? Does it follow the books? I don't watch a lot of TV... so I'm thinking maybe read the book. Or it totally veers and I should just pick the book or TV?

It's also a book ... I read it a zillion years ago, haven't watched the tv show though.

I have not watched this but always planned to once it was all finished so I wouldn't have to wait in between seasons. I have heard that it can be hard to watch though with the dread/doom so I may hold off on watching it

Season 1 follows the book pretty well, but there are differences that made sense for TV. Margaret Atwood, the book author, was also a consulting producer on the show for at least the first season. After the first season, it's all content for the TV show (no books to base from). The newest/final season will be season 6.

There will be a spin off TV show based on a more recent book of Atwood's called The Testaments that focuses on a few of the characters from Handmaid's.

I used to love it, but once it started to mirror real life I had to stop. It gave me so much dread & anxiety. It's such an amazing show though, just way too realistic sadly right now.

Kristin - the subject matter is hard when real life relates a bit too much - with how they treat women and minority groups. Frustrating plus fascinating

I won't be watching. I read the book, so watching it seems like it would just be more like reality T.V. at this point.

Exactly where I was emotionally when I stopped watching it. It was just too easy to extrapolate to those extremes given we were living in dystopian times already with the pandemic. I stopped after going to Costco for the first time with everyone wearing Covid masks and having rations. The acting is incredible - it's crazy how when it was written soooo long ago it was pure science fiction and now it doesn't seem as far fetched as when it was written.

I loved the book and the first 2 seasons of the show. I want to keep watching but like others say, it's difficult right now with how closely it mirrors are current reality.
