he begs for "little pet turtles" quite frequently. It's one of those pet's I really don't think it's fair to put in box (tank whatever) since they die if they don't get enough natural sunlight etc (shells get soft-- we had one as kids).

anyway... I've explained this to him about 9000000 times..

so he's sitting in front of the window in here and he says "ok.. ok here's the deal. this is how it works. we'll put the turtles RIGHT here, because this is where the sun light is right? and then if that's not enough I'll just turn the big light (ceiling) on because that's just like the sun too".

the whole here's the deal thing cracks me up.. he says it aLL the time when he's REALLY trying to make his point LOL.. I dunno where it came from, I prolly say it and don't even realize :D :D

Now that's genious. He's trying to sway you over to his side. Got it all thought out and planned his argument. LOL! That is too cute!
I'm glad you said that about the turtles...I had no idea! We definitely won't be getting a pet one. Not that it could survive my cats in the first place, but really I didn't know that. Learn something new everyday

it was soo sad. My mom was pretty against a pet turtle -- but my brother's classroom had one as a pet, and then summer came.. and somehow we ended up with it. It was already in pitiful shape when we got it.. My mom tried, she even bought those special reptile light things but really.. it needed sunlight. It just slowly died..poor lil guy. He was so so cute too. My dad built him a lil platform and ramp thing and he was always running (well turtle speed lol) up and sliding down.. and then he just stopped playing one day.. and started getting really lethargic.. and then died.

lol sorry for the turtle death story LOL

Awww, poor kid... trying so hard to convince mom to get him a darn turtle already! LOL!

I did not know that they need real sunlight either. My sitter has 2 or 3 and I think she said they take them outside for a while every other day or so. They are cool but I don't think I would like taking care of one either...

LOL, he's so funny! We actually to have a turtle...somehow I ended up with 2in my classroom and when I left teaching, I could only find a home for one. So, the other is here with me. He's about 7 years old, and we have to take really good care of him. So far, so good. We'll see how long he can make it...the one I gave away was 13 years old!!!

This is Mac. I hope he doesn't die...:(

I love turtles! We have 4 (desert tortoises), but you are SO right...they need sunlight. Ours live outside in a pen and eat weeds and grass (that's what they eat in the desert). Here's a pic of our 4, we've had the little ones since the day after they hatched and got the big one when he was a couple of months old. Max, Rex, Shelby, Oscar (one for each of my boys):

aww so cute...I love turtles too and would love to have one but I have heard the same thing about them. For my son its a snake and there is nooooo freaking way Im letting him get one. I would die of a heart attack the first day just knowing there is a snake in the house.

Oh thought I would share a picture for your little guy...two turtles on a log at a park near me. I thought it was cool how it reflected on the water.
