Gymnastics in the Olympics

NO SPOILERS GEMMA!

I have a long history with USA gymnastics and international gym too. I have some pictures of me with the Russian girls from 1996 and 2000, who were my friends.

Needless to say, gymnastics is my favorite. :-)

We will be cheering for sure!! My daughter is a huge fan. Twistars Gymnastics Club where Jordyn Wieber trains is only about 10 minutes from my house. We were so excited when someone local made the team!!

awesome, my neice is a little gymnastic gal too I just finished her 12x12 book for her last year of competitions :)

We live in southern Jackson County so I've seen a lot about her on the news in the past few months (Lansing is the closest major city with a TV station). I've always watched gymnastics in the Olympics since I was a little girl and dreamed of being one (too tall lol) and apparently my boys like it now, too, strangely enough. My youngest has just mastered the somersault, lol, and my oldest is determined to perfect his cartwheel. They are silly boys. My oldest is also really excited about watching the gymnasts. I have to check out the schedules and see when they are on but of course since she's from the area, we will be rooting for her. ;) Go USA! :)

Is it not show live over there? I won't spoil it for anyone, we've gone on to Olympic football here now lol.

nope doesn't start til 7pm EST here

we CAN watch live online but TV broadcast is during prime time TV slots tonight

Will be watching and cheering for sure. Glad Meg said 7 pm, so I can have my chores done and be ready! lol

It just started right now in California and I have been trying to avoid any spoilers about it since I know the results are in. How cool she is your cousin....so love her and am going to be cheering the girls on tonight!!

Just watched her perform! How exciting! Waiting for her score. Gabby has been training in DesMoines for the last few years so we have been rooting her on too!

my heart breaks for her but wow did Aly have the meet of a lifetime or what?

They really need to check that floor...3 Russians in a row went out of bounds too...seems awfully springy?

Sad for Jordyn. I don't like the scoring system no reason a gymnast that finishes 4 overall is out of the AA when somebody in 29th gets to go...should be top 24 across the board.

yeah, i gotta say - i don't really get the scoring on this stuff either. seems like it'd be a no-brainer who should be there!

What a crock! Dumb rule. So heartbreaking!

I hate this new rule of only two from each country-those girls are NOT a true representation of what an all around gymnast should be.
Bela Karolyis is ticked and I don't blame him-Its a NUTSO rule.

I noticed early on that the floor had extra bounce. Part of a gymnast's job is to adapt to that.

I don't really like the 2 per team rule but I do understand why they have it.

Up until 2000 they allowed 3 per team.

I don't know if anyone remembers but in 1992 Kim Zmeskal was the reigning all around world champ (Jordyn is too) and she also failed to qualify. Sometimes they peak too soon.

I'm really sad for Jordyn but thrilled at how the USA did.

Yes there are individual event finals.

McKayla Moroney qualified into the Vault finals in the top spot.

Gabby Douglas will compete on the bars,

Gabby and Aly will compete in the beam finals

Jordyn and Aly will compete on the floor in the finals.

The all around comes after the team and then the event finals are after that.

Top 8 compete on each event qualified into event finals, only 2 per team as well.

Oh good! See what I know.... :p

I felt so bad for her last night and think that new rule is really unfair. All around competition should be the best of the best- not just the best from each country. Doesn't seem fair that Jordyn won't make it and another gymnast will who potentially has lower scores than her. :(
