Geez the things Mandy makes me do!

So we had our ritual Wednesday a.m. discussion of last night's AI and then we got to talking about Broadway musicals and how I had never seen one and wouldn't know it if it hit me in the face  so then I started surfing around on Rhapsody for Andrew Lloyd Webber and so far today I have listened to The Phantom of the Opera and CATS and have actually enjoyed both. :thumbup:which is incredibly shocking. I even put them in my Netflix Queue. She might make a well rounded human being out of me yet. Anyone else like this stuff?

Oh, I love operettas and Broadway musicals. I'm a total Renthead, too. I was in many a musical before I had my babies and was even president of the drama club in high school.
BTW, I hope it was the original London cast of The Phantom of the Opera with Sarah Brightman that you listened to. Her voice is amazing.

LIKE this 'STUFF?!' If my life could BE a musical, I would be totally content. I really really hope I have a melodramatic poetic-hearted lil' gurl someday (with Anne of Green Gablesed hair) who, under my not so subtle suggestion, will want to have a Musical Day one day.

'Yes, hellooooooooooooo, Mister Ca-SHIER! We are buying gro-cer-IEEEEEES today. Well, I will paaaaaaaaaay by cred-cred-CREDIT to-DAY!' *jazz hands*

I'm just not cute enough to pull that off without a kiddo at my side, y'know?

If only everything in Life could be solved with a 7 minute dance number and pancake makeup...

ROFLMAO!!!!!

I love musicals! Right now I'm in a 1950's musical kick: Brigadoon is my fav today! But I also love any of the R&H musicals (South Pacific, Carousel, The King & I), My Fair Lady, Damn Yankees, etc.

I don't get to go out to see them as much as when I was single (dh is not a musical fan). I really need to take my kids to one soon :)

I love Cats, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, I could go on and on and on...

JCS is probably my all time fav though.

My top 3 are Phantom, Les Mis, and Wicked. I could listen to Wicked every day and never get tired of it. Even my husband enjoys it. Anything I sing, I sing like a musical. Gotta belt it out, baby!

i grew up on sound of music, the king and i and seven brides for seven brothers!! LOL

to date i have seen chicago and wicked on broadway and i have seen several off broadway shindigs...mamma mia (coming to a theatre near you this summer...WHAT!?!?!) etc...

our lives should be a musical...let's randomly sing today. k? i'm doing it.

LMAO! It's funny you said that. I practically put it in her head that anything but the original was a sin.
BWAHAHAH!
Sorry, Gerard Butler vs. Michael Crawford. Not even a fair fight. :D

Oh Baby, Baby...you've never lived until you've seen Michael Crawford in Phantom!!!!

**ETA - Now I've had to go get my CD of Phantom and load it into my iTunes. LOL!

I LOVE Broadway musicals! :) My absolute favorites are Wicked (last trip to Chicago) and Les Mes...got to see it in London- just magical! My first was "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"- saw it in high school and was hooked! Couldn't get enough of the CD. :)

Funny story. I read LeeAndra's post and was cracking up, and DH asked what was so funny, and then got depressed when I said it was something a friend said online. Apparently he was talking, and I wasn't listening, and he thought he was QUITE funny and I was laughing at him. Oops.

I've seen Les Mis, Phantom, and Rent (3 times). Love Rent.

I saw Phantom in Toronto about 13-14 years ago, and it was amazing! I'll never forget it as long as I live. When I was in Scotland about 7 years ago for my cousin's wedding, me and her took a day and went into Glasgow where we had tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar, it seriously rocked.

I just love Andrew Lloyd Webber, have been a big fan for years. I love the Phantom music best of all, but Les Mis is one of my favorites I have from that kind of stuff also. After the show last night, this morning, I was taking all the old cds out LOL.

In my family, you kind of had to be a fan of musicals. My grandma was an off-Broadway dancer, and many of my grandparents' friends were theater people - in fact, I know one of them was in Oklahoma! and was supposed to be in the Wizard of Oz (but had to serve in the Army instead). So musicals run in my blood. I'm not a Cats fan, but I do love most of the other ALW musicals, especially Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom. I have yet to hear Wicked, but I have been wanting to see it for some time. My other favorite musicals (besides the ALW ones) are Oliver!, My Fair Lady and West Side Story. Love the classics!

Does Grease count??? :p I can honestly say I have never seen a musical. Not that I would be opposed to it, but unless I want to go to San Fran by myself, I will probably never see one either...

uggghhh, GAG ME WITH A SPOON!

I'm with Kat, Grease is the only musical I like.

I mean, I like plays and stuff; it's just all that obnoxious singing that drives me up the wall. Once I had to watch, what's that awful movie with Audrey Hepburn and the guy tries to reform her...I can't remember the name, but when I watched it, I kept thinking, " I have a zillion things to do and I'm stuck here watching this?!" It was literally painful.

If I wanna watch people sing, I'll go to a concert. But I'll love you gals all the same if you wanna watch musicals. :)

Don't hate on the My Fair Lady.

have to say i love phantom--but has anyone seen the lion king? I was so in love iwth it---could see it again & again & again....

My MIL gave DH and I tickets to see lion king - we both loved it:wub:
Both hubby and I love to go and see musicals - we don't do it often enough!

Oh, I *love* My Fair Lady!
I'll love you all the same if you wanna dog on musicals.:p:wub:

I have only seen Cats and LOVED it! I would see it again and again if I could. I even bought the video so I could watch it whenever I wanted.

Thanks for that link Manda, I spent a long time (too long) on there watch some of my favorite songs! LOL!

My husband picked the last two musicals that we went to - Spamalot and Avenue Q - they were hilarious.

My all time favorite is My Fair Lady though :)

Yes, ESPECIALLY Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Last night when they were performing, all I could think was "omg I'd never be able to sing with ALW playing piano". He's amazing!

Oh and My husband and oldest son went to Spamalot.

Someone had to stay home and babysit, so I let them have their male bonding. They both loved it!

well this morning it is Evita. My kids are cracking up, lol. I'm going to watch some of these on Netflix DVD, but I hope to see some live. My best friend is moving to New York this summer so I am hoping that when I go visit her we can check out some shows, etc. I am aLL about broadening my horizons and expanding myself..snicker. But really this stuff is fun! I had always loved The Wizard of Oz, Grease, Hairspray, things *I* considered musicals. And to think all it took was David Cook to make me expand my universe, lol
