Gallery praise question

Let me just start by saying this isn't a debate on whether or not comments have merit or to complain about "nice page" or copy/pasted comments, etc.

I'm just sort of curious about this. :)

If you were going to get themostawesomecommentever on your layout or project, are you hoping they comment on your scrap skills? (shadows, composition, title work, photography, etc.)
Or on the subject of your layout? (WHAT you journaled about or the subject of the photos)
Something else?

I know any comment is appreciated. Just curious if one type makes you feel extra warm and fuzzy.

someone who takes the time to comment GENUINELY always gets me. every time. when they mention something special about my layout, my shadows are amazing, my journaling hit home, etc.

i always wonder if i comment on the "subject" of the layout if the scrapper maybe assumes I don't appreciate the things like shadows or title work or whatever. And then I think about the people who make a big deal that their layouts are for memory keeping (usually the ones who aren't into scrapping as art or hobby), and I think maybe they actually prefer the comments about the story they shared.

I like it all, but I think I really especially like the actual scrap "talent" praise a lot. I wonder if it has to do with feeling validated that I spend so much time doing it. I could have just told the story with no photos or in a less artistic way, but I choose scrapbooking for my storytelling medium because it is creative...an artform.

this is almost exactly how i feel. i love that people can relate to my pages, but damnit, i want someone to tell me i'm good LOL

I guess it depends on what jumps out at me first. If it's a very cute of funny picture, I might say something about the photo. If it's a page with a template I know and the person really used it in a fun way, than that will be what I comment about. Ofcourse I also notice when someone does amazing shadowing or clever title work, so it really all depends. If I have enough time I might even comment on all those aspects! :)

I like any genuine comment! :)

That said, I find I can't read very many scrapbook gallery pages (too small fonts -- mine included) -- so I usually comment on the scrap talent rather than the story on the page.

I always tend to praise the part of the page that is most unique and stands out to me... Funny, but Krystal and Laura, your pages are often so wonderfully transparent with your journaling that its hard to ignore that amazingness and only compliment your shadows. It seems like the journaling takes more skill when it is done so well by scrappers like you two. Kwim? :)

I guess the ultimate comment about a page would be a mixed one... Something that says wow, you are good at layouts, fab photos, and touching sentiment or journaling. The whole shebang. :D

I agree a mix of compliments is always good. I do not know... as long as the comment puts through the intention of actually liking your layout I am thrilled :) Comments always make me happy ... I kinda check my gallery several times a day when I post layouts so I can see if I got any :) Talk about needy! sheesh! lol

I can honestly say that I've never felt as though any comment I got at SSD was a disingenuous one. That's what I love about this place. I think all scrappers want to hear that they're good at what they do, ya know?

I'm good with both types. I don't necessarily scrap to get recognition for any talent I might have so if a comment is about the subject or the photos or the journaling that's great. If someone thinks I have any amount of talent and they comment on that, then I'm good too :D

Hmm... when I comment it's on what stopped me to open that layout and look at it closer... be it the design, photo, subject, etc... and that is what I comment on... and many times I'm so blown away all I can say is amazing! :D

I love each and every comment I receive... but the ones that really get me to the heart are those that say I inspired... I get a bit embarrassed when someone comments on a layout using a template that the composition is awesome... or using a darcy font that they wish their handwriting was as pretty... :o

I love genuine comments. SSD is awesome because I think for the most part, we honestly WANT to encourage one another.

I love to leave genuine comments, too. I will often leave love on the subject of the page, not because I don't love the design, etc, but I feel the subject deserves the attention. Does that make sense?

I'll admit that sometimes I don't get wordy with my comments... but my comments are genuine even if it's just a simple "WOW, this is stunning!" Sometimes, I just don't have the words to say in particular, it just stands out to me and it's almost like it makes me speechless.

but, I do like any genuine comment, whether it's about the journaling or the logistics of the layout...

copy/paste comments used to bug me... but then I realized that they don't make those comments on all my layouts and just the ones they actually like so it doesn't bug me anymore... LOL... I'm just glad they took the time, whether it's 2 seconds or a long paragraph to comment on my layout :) It's like FB, I'm just glad when someone "like"s my layout, even though sometimes I'd love some comments saying why they "like" it... but I'm just happy they like it :)

i take what heather said into consideration too. i'm VERY guilty of just saying WOW!! or "omg that's AMAZING!" but if i DO comment, it's because i really love the layout. i'm horrible about gallery love :/

For me the most flattering comment is the one where they say my page convinced them to buy the kit!! Or was the push to buy the kit. Or the deciding factor in purchasing the kit. To me that is the ultimate compliment!!!

Other then that it's always nice to hear that you designed a fab page or have awesome title work or your shadows are so realistic looking!! I don't care if they like my photo or my journaling...both those things are personal to me/my family....so it doesn't matter if anyone else likes them!!! :D :D

I have to say lately the ones loving my photography skills, or photo editing skill melt my heart. Its a big part of scrapping to me and my passion so its like an added bonus to the fact that These super sweet, super awesome, super talented girls are even commenting on my layout. I love all comments really. Just the fact that someone took the time out of their day to see my layout, or write anything makes me the happiest person. :) I've been trying really hard the past couple months to be better about commenting on others as well. :)

I use words like Stunning-or WOW...or FAB I mean them. I just like to leave comments. I like them on my pages. I refuse to dissect what someone means when they post on my LO and I hope no one spends too much time doing that to what I post on theirs, because I like your LO or else I wouldn't have taken the time to post a comment, simple as that.

There are people who I feel I "know" a bit better than others so a little more will be left-but that is only because the people in the LO's are real to me...more so than a "stranger". KWIM?

Any and all praise is welcome...and appreciated on my front.

I love it when people comment on any technical aspect of my page, but really all comments are welcome. Of course the personalized ones are the best. When I see comments that just say "nice page" sometimes it doesn't register as much as praise to me (especially if it came from the praise thread). I don't leave the most personalized comments because I don't always know what to say, even if I think a page is really stunning. I do try to find one or two things that stick out to me the most. Like others mentioned, I can't always read the journaling.

Off topic, but related to praise, it really bothers me when people post their pages in the praise thread and don't leave any other comments, not even for the person directly above them. I know it's easy to get distracted, but I just never post to a praise thread unless I have 5 minutes to comment on other pages.

I can only talk for me personally but whether I have plenty of time or none at all, when I comment it's genuine. Also when it's just one word.
I scrap for me and I place my layouts in the gallery because I like them and want to show them off. Not for the comments.

However, I think everyone enjoys comments...it's good for your ego
And when someone tells me my clusters are great I am so happy. Because that's the area I feel insecure in.

Definitely comments about the design/composition of the layout are my favorite (if I haven't used a template, of course). :) Sometimes I get comments that are nothing about the layout, like "oh my kid does that too" and it's nice that the time was taken to comment, but I'm kind of like "oh." I swear I had this one layout that got several comments and almost every one was like that. So I just figured the layout itself must have sucked.

And I love the "OMG, that's amazing!" comments. ;)

I'm not big on commenting on the journaling, because mostly I just can't read it. But it's pretty easy to get the sentiment of the layout without reading every word.

For me the most flattering comment is the one where they say my page convinced them to buy the kit!! Or was the push to buy the kit. Or the deciding factor in purchasing the kit. To me that is the ultimate compliment!!!

Yessss!! I totally feel the same way! :)

When everyone is so pressed for time, I think it is wonderful if anyone takes the time to say anything about my layouts. 'Lovely layout ' does me fine cos someone has been moved enough to make the effort to comment

I always try to say something individual for layouts I comment on but sometimes I do just say fabulous layout etc.

Sometimes this is because I don't have much time but I want to leave my appreciation for a layout that really strikes me - sometimes it is truly cos I don't know what to say ...I mean .. what can you say about a Cindy page that hasn't been said 100000000 times before !!!!

What I appreciate most is when someone gets what I was "trying to say", artistically. Like noticing a particular detail that is there for a reason.

To your question - comments on the contents are just as nice as comments on the form. I think it's about what catches the attention of the commenting person at the moment of commenting rather then saying that what they don't comment on is not good.

With shorter comments I'd say that not everybody is into comments, or into formulating long, review-like comments, so even shorter ones are very much appreciated.

I pretty much enjoy any comment I get here. Whether it's on comp, shadowing, journaling, subject of photos. I  it. I don't mind when someone just comments on my girls in the photo I used, because really, I absolutely love to show off my girls!

When I comment, I try to say what drew me to it in the first place. Sometimes I get tongue tied, lol, because of so much awesomeness!! I also overuse exclamation points, but that's seriously because I love it. Although, sometimes I try not to leave so many !!! because I think people will think I'm not being serious :o

I'm big on commenting and try to do it several times a day, but I don't comment just to comment. If I say something, I really meant it. A lot of times, I comment on pictures because I'm way into photography and that's what brought me to scrapping. Pictures are always the thing I notice first. I do try to comment on other things too, especially shadowing and clusters.

As for myself, I love all comments and try to always return them.

I appreciate any and all comments. Length doesn't matter to me - I figure if someone takes the time to comment at all, they mean it. I know it's that way for me. I will pick out details if they strike me, but many times, I comment on the entire layout because I can't pick out just a few things, I love it all.

I esp. find it hard to come up with genuine comments for those whose layouts I am always impressed by... I don't want to say nothing, but it's hard not to say the same thing over and over again. lol

I always like when one of my 'scrap hero(ine)s' comments on my work. It doesn't happen often, but it just makes me smile.

Or one time I got a comment that someone went and bought the kit after they saw my page. That made me smile, too.

I also love any comments. When I leave comments I try to pick out what drew me to the layout, but as many of you said sometimes they whole thing is just awesome and it's hard to pick. If I say something about a layout it's genuine and I really did like the layout. It really makes my day when the designers of the template or kit comment on my layout.

I haven't read all the responses yet but sometimes when I get "he's so cute" or "great picture" it leaves me thinking that the page sucks and they hate my scrapping.

I mostly just get comments from the praise game so I know that the page didn't just jump out at the person from the gallery.
