Does your computer heats up over time?

I have a 5-year-old Macbook (unibody, like MBP) and it constantly heats up as it gets older. Nowadays, I can't use it without a USB fan. :blink:

I'm curious if this only happens to my old Macbook or also to the newer models, because I'm seriously considering of upgrading into an iMac (maybe) in a few months.

I have a 15" macbook pro I bought this year. it heats up but it takes a while. Usually its if I have had it on for a day or more. I am notorious for shutting the lid on my mac and letting it go to sleep. It heated up like crazy when I was doing the initial back up onto crash plan.

My previous macbook pro was the same way, like yours it got hotter faster when it was getting older.

I have iMac and it's quiet and not heating at all. It's just not portable, that's all. Apart from that, I love it

I have an almost 5 year old MBP and it does not normally heat up when it's on my desk. If I'm sitting with it directly on my legs, it will get hot (due to the increased temperature of the surface - i.e. my body heat, lol).

I got mine January last year. So it's only 1.5 years old.

My iMac is almost three years old and doesn't get hot.

Laptops are generally more prone to heating up than desktops. I am on my second iMac (just bought it in Feb) and it stays cool and the fan is super quiet. My older iMac did heat up a bit near the end of its life.

That's what I thought too, which is why I want to get an iMac instead of Macbook Pro.
