File Storage?

I fell down an organization rabbit hole this weekend! This has been asked before but it's always worth getting a fresh perspective.

I have saved a bunch of pages to high-res jpegs for printing or photobooks, or whatever.

What to do with the source psd files? Save or pitch, and when? Move to an archive?

I'm not hurting for space, but I'd like to separate finished pages with pages in progress. Plus, when I'm tidying, I'm all in.

For all page I save the layered file and the high res printing one.

I have a "Scrap pages" working on folder for all pages until I print them. Once printed they are moved and sorted by year or event within that year.

I have two 12 tb drives, so I have plenty of space. I probably don't need to save the layered file.... but keep them anyway.

I keep mine.
Finished Pages --> 2012
Finished PSD --> 2012

This way, if I want to go back and change out photos or figure out what kit I used, I can grab the psd. Also, if I need the space, I can just delete the psd's. And I don't have double pages or anything.

Cheryl (Fiddle Dee Dee) keeps the PSD because she can quickly reuse them by changing out photos like for a memorium or something.

Yes! I love keeping layouts if you need to make a quick slideshow or a special photo gift for someone. It's super easy to switch out the photos, journaling, title work, and journaling. Then you just save as HI RES when you are ready to print.

I don't keep HI RES versions, as I know I can make them again if necessary.

I do name my files by LAYOUT TITLE>NAMESOFPEOPLEINPHOTO>DATEPHOTOSTAKEN.

I can search by name in either Lightroom or Explorer to quickly find layouts.

I keep my TIF files. I put them with the file with the original photos.

I name mine: year-month{photo was taken}_designer-kit_designer-template.

I figure knowing this info helps if I want to do a facing page.

Similar to other, I keep all of my layered files. I prefer the TIFF format over PSD since the file size is smaller, but there is not impact on quality.

I also keep the layered files (I open, flatten and save as a larger file when I want to print them or when creating a book). I also keep the flattened files.

I save my pages as 'date_created_kit_designer'. I make a new folder each year to pop everything into.

If I am searching for something, I find it is easy for me to look through my gallery at SSD (since that is the only place I post layouts) and work my way back into my files based on the date I posted.

I don't keep the layered files as I found over the years that I just never went back and used them.

I save a high res jpg of the photo taken date and title 'yy-mm-dd-title'
