Family Poses with infant

So I know I've got six and a half weeks before she gets here, but I'm trying to be prepared. I scoured Pinterest and google images last night, but I couldn't find many samples of family photos with a newborn. I know lots of you are great photographers, so does anybody have some ideas for me? I want to do a family portrait for our birth announcements, as well as a photo of her by herself, and I'd love to get one or two of the boys with her.

Any ideas?

PS Anywhere I can get coordinating outfits for a 7 yr old, 4 yr old {both boys} and a newborn girl?

I'm not a pro, but I try to act like one, lol. I love family photos with newborns when they are all sitting or standing kind and everyone looks at the baby who is laying in mom's (or dad's) arms. Those look most natural to me. Same idea with just the kids - I like to have them look at the baby. I bet you could get matching outfits at Gymbo maybe. :)

Old Navy has a lot of coordinating clothing!

On a side not - I didn't realize you knew what the gender was! I am SO EXCITED for you to have a girl!!!! It's SO much fun (the clothes shopping is awesome, lol)!!!

I like the photo where the baby is lying on their belly on the floor ( on a small rug) and the rest of the family is standing behind him/her, and all you can see of the family is mid-calf down. I'll see if I can find the image I'm thinking of.

This isn't the one I was thinking of, but it's still cute:

When we had Landon's newborn photos done we as a family were dressed in blues and whites. For the family photo we took it on our bed and Landon was just laying in front of us. you can't really see him all that well but I still love it. Let me see if I can find it on our photographers blog. Oh and we just kept Landon naked or wrapped in a muslin blanket.

You know, I think the feet pose is so cute, but I have lived in Malaysia for the last 9 years, where feet are highly offensive (and dirty to boot, all that year round flip flop wearing, you know}, and I just can't bring myself to have pictures of our feet taken, lol.

Those photos are SO SWEeT, Erin! I love that owl hat. I'll definitely have to get me one of those.

I've got this picture in my mind of Joel holding Kung Fu Princess on his chest facing the center, with me on the other side and the two boys in between us, kind of like a big family hug, ya know? But I think if that was a cute pose, surely I'd be able to find someone else who's done it, right?

And I love the idea of the baby in the center and us all looking at her. Thanks for the ideas, girls!

Gina Miller does a ton of newborn photography, Kellie. Have you checked out her blog?

I would also check out Tara Whitney who doesn't specialize in babies, but does such amazing family photography that I think you could adapt for your needs.

Check out this blog Kellie!

They don't allow me to right click to paste photos here, but seriously, they have some of the most amazing newborn photos I have seen. I'm linking to page 2 where there are a couple of photos of 2 big brothers and a baby, but definitely check out the other pages as well!

Ok, all I can think when I see the first photo from that link is "That mother has her baby out in the snow without a coat?!"

She did put a disclaimer about that before showing the photos. I would copy it here but the site doesn't allow that.

Now I'm cold seeing that poor baby in the snow! Yikes! I read the disclaimer but I still have to figure that they had to walk outside and stand long enough to take the shot. Even if it was 2 minutes, I'd consider that too much for my newborn. Maybe I'm a wuss. LOL The carriage is a neat idea though, and that would be warm. :)

I like the pictures of them on the couch as a family. :)

Are my newborns the only ones who would NOT sleep during pictures? I mean, I have pictures of them sleeping but they certainly never stayed asleep to be posed in any fashion. The minute they left my arms they were wide awake. Heck, my boy just never slept at all. LOL

I love the coordinating outfits from Gymboree and The Children's Place. They coordinate all the way up to size 12. That's why my oldest daughter hates me!
