Fake Christmas Trees

So we are considering switching over the a fake tree for several reasons but I'm having a hard time committing to it. I just love the whole tradition of going out and cutting it down but I hate
-having to water every day
-worrying about ruining the hardwood floor with the water
-not being able to have it up for long
-fire hazard

So tell me, for those of you that have fake
-prelit or unlit
-who makes the best 'real' looking ones
- if you've had a real tree do you miss it?

We only had a fake one when I was younger...we have real ones now. But...to answer the questions...
There are some great ones almost everywhere, and if you are going to go fake, you may as well go pre-lit too...and yeah, as I sit here smelling my new tree...i would miss it.

A thought though...maybe you could do a real one this year, and then purchase a fake one the day after xmas...that's what my mom is planning on doing since they are at least 50% off that day.

Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and Kmart normally run large % off sales on trees prior to Christmas. Ours is a Martha Stewart from Kmart - it definitely looks nicer than our previous fake tree. I would definitely go for prelit - it is so much faster than having to untangle and string lights!

My SIL says she burns christmas tree scented candles in the room to make up for the lack of tree smell...

We have a fake...and you just have to go shop for a 'real to you' one. There are so many out there, and they can be really expensive. Definitely shop the 50% off sales at the craft stores for a good selection.

We bought a pre-lit last year, but we still add way more lights - we light a well-lit tree :) Ours probably has about 15 strands at least :)

I can't have a real tree because of my allergies, but I can say, that the years we had a real one at home...and the couple of years I tried a real one when single, I don't miss real ones at all. Granted, I never went to cut one down; we just bought them from lots. I'm happy not to have all the maintenance.

we have a fake one bc cass and i are both highly allergic to real trees. we got a pre-lit from hobby lobby on sale and i must say it looks nicer than a lot of the real ones.

We have a fake tree because I refuse to deal with a real one. Mine is only 3ft. It's not quite as wide as the real 3 ft trees but it is real looking apart from that and apart from the bare spots you get with real ones. We were looking at bigger ones last night at Target and they have some very realistic ones. We found a 6.5ft one, prelit for $60. It is supposed to be mock spruce & i think it looked pretty good. The $125 version by a different maker was even better.

We've had a fake tree for almost 8 years. We live in the desert and prior to getting the fake tree our real tree was always bone dry by the Christmas arrived. I remember one Christmas going through TWO real trees.

We LOVE our tree. It's pre lit and OMG, there are a lot of lights on it!! We got ours when the Home Goods store went out of business here in town. I miss the smell, so I bought a Yankee Candle!! LOL

good luck!

We are considering a artificial tree this year as well. I hate watering and needles all over and I know Sophia will terrorize anything we get, so being fake the needles won't fall off everytime she pulls at the ornaments.

As for missing the smell, yankee candle tarts are so amazing at making my whole house smell like Christmas!:)

We have a fake tree as I'm allergic to real ones. It always looks perfect every year, we never run the risk of getting a bald tree or odd shape, the carpet isn't covered in pine needles each morning and we can put it up whenever we want

After 2 years of having to buy 2 trees we bought a fake one. We got ours at Home Depo for 50% off after Christmas. That was 7 years ago and it still looks just as pretty as the day we bought it. Oh, and it's pre-lit with white lights. I guess the only thing I wish is that it wasn't pre-lit because once in a while I would like to have colored lights but I can deal since it saves a lot of stress and argument between me and DH about putting the lights on...

I can't remember what ours is but it looks similar to a Noble Fir (my favorite tree).

All the stores mentioned have an excellent selection.
I've always had a fake always it's prelit and I actually bought it last year at Walmart for 24 bucks.
The real things scare me b/c of the fire hazard:unsure: and I will not ruin my hardwood floor

We have a fake prelit too. It suits our purposes. Although due to lack of floor space, we only have a 4 ft prelit, and I really want room to put a 6 ft.

I would wait for this year, Pam.. target puts their christmas trees on 50% clearance the day after christmas. :)

We have a 9-10' pre-lit tree. I loved getting real trees when I was a kid, but my DH and a couple of my sons are allergic. When DH told me that he suffered the whole Christmas season every year when he was a child because his mother (whom he was VERY devoted to) refused to get a fake tree, that was it for me, as I didn't want anyone in my family suffering.

My only requirement was that we get a huge tree as we have vaulted ceilings. Here's a photo of it I took from the stairs on Christmas Eve last year:

I had fake trees my whole life because I'm allergic to real ones and I can't stand the smell of pine cuz makes me sneeze sooo bad!!!

I have a 7 ft unlight tree. I choose unlight because I like to change my decorations every year, and that includes the lights.

Another good thing about fake ones is that you can put the ornaments exactly where you want as the branches can be bended and move at your will

About brands.. oh geez, I just pick one I like... LOL

Here is mine this year

We bought a cheap, prelit artifical tree this year. I have seem some great ones at Hobby Lobby, Lowes, Menards and Home Depot. They are pretty cost efficient if you use them a few years.

well i was thinking of trying to convince DH to go for a real tree this year but this thread has changed my mind.

we just have a little (like 4ft?) prelit cheapo tree that I got from Jo-Ann's one year. It looks rather sad to me. I suppose if I bothered to get better decorations that would help.

due to allergies (mine) we have a fake tree. We got it many years ago and it still is holding up well! I don't miss the pine smell because all my life we've had a fake tree! :)

Ours was before prelit trees but hubby enjoys putting on the lights and then girls go through and put up decorations :)

We have a really nice artificial tree. I always loved the smell of real trees but you just can't have them in the desert -- they are already dried out in the lot when you buy them and basically dead by Christmas! Ours is made by Paddock. It was expensive, but everyone says it's the nices/most realistic tree they've seen. It is not pre-lit, though I kinda wish it were!).

Thanks everyone! I think I may just convert. I was looking online at some from a place called Balsam Hill, they are expensive but look really nice online. I appreciate everyone's feedback!

I have no ideas Pam, I could never go with a fake tree, I love my real tree too much. I just put mine up and the smell is so nice, I couldn't imagine Christmas without it!
