Every year it's something!

It seems like every single year for Aiden's birthday there is some sort of family related drama. My Sister just informed me that she made other plans on the day of Aiden's party. I was immediately hurt but after some thought I've decided that I'm just not going to let stuff like this upset me anymore. It's going to be a happy day for Aiden and the people who want to be there will come and have a good time. End of story. Oy!

Ugh! That has got to be sooo frustrating! Stuff like that happens with DH's family all the time. :p You are right, don't change the date or make exceptions for the people who don't seem to really want to be there. They are missing out. It's on them, not you. ;)

Our other Sister has already made plans to make the 3 hour drive one way for the party. I wouldn't change it for the one who lives in town even if she acted like she wanted me to.

Hugs Kimberly! I think that's one benefit of coming from such a LARGE family. It's so rare that we can all get together, that we just don't try to do it that often. When we have kids' birthdays, etc., everyone is invited, no one is obligated, and no one has hurt feelings. It would be impossible to plan things in a way that everyone could attend, except for holidays and other really big events that take a lot of planning. I think if I was from a smaller family, where we all *could* get together, I would feel bad if people didn't take the initiative to be at family functions. HUGS again . . . just enjoy Aiden on his special day and have fun with those that made the time to celebrate with him.

Big events with lots of people are hard for Aiden with his sensory issues so typically it's just close family that he knows really well and is comfortable with. Maybe 10 of us total. He just loves her SO much he will for sure miss her being there. I'm not angry or anything just a little bummed it's not an important thing to her.

(((hugs))). Nothing can make you madder than a sister! Get's you right in the gut, huh? I know it is easier said than done, but try to let it go and have a wonderful party.

Hugs!! It's good that you aren't letting it get to you... I'm still mad that kiddo's god mother didn't try to attend his birthday party. I understand that the day of the party, it was also her birthday... BUT - her and my best friend were like a mile away having a spa day at a salon and they couldn't even stop for a couple of minutes to say hi or even ask if they could come a different day to see kiddo... yup, still a sore spot for me...

i can relate. It was my daughters first birthday last week and maybe a quarter of the people we invited actually came (and we only invited family). i understand that my sister had a casual shift at her work, and my brother had a soccer game, but i dunno, i just felt sad for my daughter that they didnt make it, and arent in any of the photos of her first birthday. A first birthday just seems a little special to me. I always make a super effort when it comes to my nieces and nephews, so its a little sad that my siblings dont seem to make as much effort. i went to my nieces 1st birthday party when i was 8 weeks pregnant and so sick i wanted to vomit every minute i was there. And noone knew i was pregnant, so i had to pretend i was fine the whole time. was awful! but i went because i thought it was important to be there.
Anyway! I hope your little man has an awesome day!

:( So sorry. My family is that way a lot and it is so frustrating. I don't think the family has attended a party for my daughter since she turned 3 (and she turned 10 a couple of weeks ago) and haven't been to one for my son since his 1st birthday (and he turned 6 in November). They don't show any interest at all yet my brother invites us to his kids' parties every year and God forbid there be a reason we genuinely can't attend... he gets so mad. One of his kids' has a birthday 5 days before my boy yet he can never remember my boy's birthday. My mom only recently started to acknowledge their birthdays and that was after I threw a huge fit and called her out on it. I don't expect presents, I don't expect them to attend the party, but I wanted her to at least wish them a happy birthday. She goes all out for my brother's kids (because he gets ticked off if she doesn't and makes a big scene).

Well, I can understand why you are upset, but I applaud you for letting go and moving on with such a good attitude. Family, you just gotta love them!

I'm sorry your sister isn't making the party more of a priority, sweets! :( I think you've got a great attitude about it though. Enjoy the day with those who care and want to be there. Hugs!!

Aiden is going to have such a good time, and that's all that I'm concerned about. I wish she would come but I'm just not going to fret over it.

Man, I can so relate to family just sucking sometimes. My DH's brother and his wife/kids NEVER come to anything on our side of the family, but if it's her side of the family, they never, ever miss it, and she comes from a family of 8 sisters! I feel the same way you do...I just feel bad that my kid is missing out on the family. But hey, if we're not important to them, I'm not gonna lose sleep over them being a big part of our lives.
