Elf on the Shelf 2013

I have elf issues. My kids get up at 6am, or earlier (all on their own and with discouragement from me) and I cannot drag myself out of bed earlier to set up an elf situation for them so I have to do it the night before. But we have 4 cats so I have to be careful what I do because the cats find it interesting and knock things over during the night. I can set up a Monopoly game with Elvin and the dinosaurs and sometime during the night the cats will jump on the table and scatter the pieces, Elvin and the dinos everywhere.

And I can't do anything with food because the cats will eat it, or try to eat it, or at the least get cat hair on it. When Elvin brings food he just sits in the kitchen with a note saying 'look in the fridge' or 'look in the cupboard'

Last night I disabled the screen saver on the boys laptop and logged into MInecraft and did some random things and left Elvin sitting in front of it so they would find him 'playing'. But one of the cats decided to sleep on the keyboard. *sigh*

This is why Elvin drinks... :)

ok here is our 1st day (today)

Today Candy Cane decided to be a snowball in a cardboard igloo, Logan had a lovely time decorating the igloo after school with washi tape, wood veneer, stickers, stamps and drawing. He added the snowglobe with their photo for "company" hugs Crystal xx

Our 'last year' elf, Cindy Lou, visited last night & left the kids a note (because she's packed away in a box that went to live with their dad & I haven't been to buy a new one yet):

Hi kids,
I stopped in for a visit, but I can’t stay here with you yet,
I know that you’ve missed me all year so this makes you kind of sad, I bet.
Big News! I have a new job there’s lots that needs to get done,
I’m Santa’s first choice, Yep I’m number one.
I don’t get to stay with your family this year,
but don’t you worry one little bit I’m sending my bestie to stay here.
Don’t forget to pick up your things, and help your mom out lots,
Dream sweet dreams, say your prayers and always, always think good thoughts
Be the best you, that you can possibly be,
Make us all proud Mommy, Santa and Me
Go to school and read books learn math and get smart,
and never forget to say “excuse me” when you fart.
I’ll stop by again soon, but I really must go,
I know I’m an elf, but I don’t like the snow.
I’ll stop by again soon, See you later Baboon!!

I still have to get my photos edited... however tomorrow SOMEONE is getting a warning letter from Santa... :(

Such a cute idea! I would love to do this when we have kids, but I bet the hubs will be opposed. Lol...He says stuff like Santa and moving toys = deceiving your children. Bah Humbug! You guys might google "dinovember" for some ideas :) There's a really funny blog about a family with a set of troublesome toy dinosaurs who engage in mischief and mayhem every November night... Very creative :)

Day 5 Candy Cane got a visitor apparently Mummy should find a better hiding spot for the spare elf, but luckily Logan believed me when I said Cancy Cane's brother had come to visit and hid in the box under my desk as a surprise, but fallen asleep. They had great fun picking a name for him and the fact that they decided he should be called "Jingle Bam" really shows they have watched Prep and Landing too many times lol. Hugs Crystal xx

Day 6 Candy Cane and Jingle Bam decided to take a spin on Leia's car, although she is not impressed and has already tried to tip them out lol. Hugs Crystal xx

We don't do the elf thing, but one of my friends just posted something that her naughty elf did...he apparently misplaced their stockings. I thought it was funny anyway :D

Day 7 - He must have heard us talking about L.J.'s cousins being in town because he got busy and made them all presents...Fruit Loop necklaces. Yum...breakfast!

Day 7: North Pole Breakfast! My oldest kept saying that the juice wasn't Elf juice it was grape juice because it didn't taste like elves! I swear that girl will be the death of me. But she still agreed that Emerald brought it

Ok you ladies are making this look so fun so I'm off this morning to hopefully find an Elf on the Shelf so I can start tomorrow...I know I'm late but it looks like so much fun...wish me luck :) Thanks for the inspiration and the extra work because now I have to think of ideas :)

Good luck Rachelle! It is sooo fun!

Day 8 - An elf's work is never done. He was up all night cleaning up after the reindeer.

It was in a little gardening set that we've had for years. I had to search forever to find it in my son's playroom. LOL!

We don't do it daily b/c Luke doesn't believe in Santa, but Luke & Joel have a little battle back and forth. Joel started it with Joel having the Elf type a little note up.

Then Luke hid him in Joel's bed. Joel had him hanging from the TP roll. Luke put him by the nativity. Joel is a slacker and hasn't moved him yet.

Obviously we aren't doing the original idea of the Elf, but we're having fun! I love the underwear thing... I think *I* might jump in tonight and do that. LOL

Yall are so creative! We just got an elf of our own yesterday so he hasn't been up to any mischief yet, but I'll be borrowing a lot of these ideas!

December 8 - DH and I had an overnight event to go to so my kids spent the night at my parents. My Daddy was in charge of the elves last night. He said the kids were totally beside themselves when they woke up and the elves had followed them to Nana and Papaw's house lol
