EHD double failure?!

Ok I am not in panic mode yet...I am numb...

I put everything on one ehd and then back up to a second ehd.

The other night I was copying my SS stuff to ehd #1...suddenly it corrupted and all I see is the 7 items I just copied from the laptop to that ehd...the rest is all jibberish...chinese looking symbols or something...ackkk! Luckily my 2008 photos are on the laptop so I think NO PROBLEM I have the second ehd with 2007 and all older ones backed up on it.

I plugged in the second ehd which is a Maxtor...it flashes...but no sounds and no movement is detected. Maybe I have the wrong plug? well the ehd plugs don't have the maker on them...I find 2 of the 3 plugs...2 are same company ehd (I have a smaller WD drive and a 500 GB one...and then my 2nd ehd back up is a maxtor)...but the plug ins look different so thinking I got one of them right. I can't access the data!

Now............can I panic?

Can someone take a pic of their Western Digital ehd power cord and show me?

Can someone take a pic of their Maxtor ehd power cord and show me?

I've tried both cords but I am missing one between my 3 drives.

Any ideas what to do???!!! I did try running lifeguard diagnostics I downloaded from the western digital site...it ran for SIX HOURS and then told me the drive was fine...but it looks the same!

Anyone have luck using Best Buy's Geek Squad for data recovery?

I do have all my SS kits because I kept them on the laptop...but I'm probably missing almost all my kids' life since digital (about 7 years)!!

Do you have another computer you could try plugging them into? Maybe it's a problem with the laptop.
 
OMG - I would be a big panicy mess right now. I hope you get it figured out. Sorry that I am no help - I don't have those brands of EHD and never used BB data recovery. Hopefully someone will come to your resucue!
 
What Lynnette said. I had a problem with my work computer and using my EHD to back up several months ago. It turns out my regular hard drive was going bad at the time, but it wasn't showing "symptoms" yet. When my computer hard drive went bad a month or two later after I had the EHD issues, they had to replace the hard drive. All of a sudden my EHD started working with the new hard drive in place - and I was able to recover every file I had been able to back up before the issues started. So yes, try another computer....
 
oh no!!!!!! I care so much more (as I'm sure most of us do) about photos (and layouts really) than scrap stuff! So I feel for you! I hope you can figure out something! I am in the process of burning our picture to DVD for my hubby to store at work because I'm so paranoid of losing all of that.
 
Well my laptop should be delivered today to HP because a "button" fell off of that brand new laptop. I thought it was having issues accessing the ehd...now I think maybe the ehd was starting to have issues.

I did plug it into Scott's laptop and into Brian's laptop...but it wouldn't work for either...but my 250GB drive will work with Scott's...but unfortunately it has very few pictures on it.
 
well I thought having the pictures on 2 different ehd and 2 different brands would mean I was safe...apparently not!
 
Well I called Best Buy's Geek Squad and they told me to bring in both ehd...they would see which one might be easier to get the data from...but no idea on $$ depends on how much work it takes. ...but having it on 2 different drives with different failures...might be a good thing?

I tried calling dh to "break it to him" but he didn't answer...I tell ya what good is it to have a dh work for a cell phone company if you can't get ahold of him when you need to? lol ok JK he may have been in a meeting. ...or more importantly...lunch. rotfl

After the stress of all of this mess, I think you need to run away for awhile to the land of your birth LOL...I'll give you a room as long as you want!

Boy would I love to get away!!! Better watch out...I'll take you up on it this Spring/Summer. I so want to get together and this time have time to scrap together!!
 
Oh, good luck. I hope it all gets sorted out and that you haven't lost anything. Really keeping my fingers crossed for you.
