Easy template question

Hi - I'm hoping someone might be able to answer a silly question for me! I'm trying to figure out how to 'fill' a section of the template for the cookie decorating challenge with a photo! I can figure out how to do it with papers, just fine but every time I try and put a photo in, it's just a corner of the photo and when I resize it, it's tiled weird so I can't see what I want to see. Is there an easier way?
I use PSP X1 but do have photoshop if there is a simple way there.
Help!!
 
Hummm-I used PSPX...But here is what I do...I use my magic wand to select the frame...or the shape where I want the picture to be...I modify the selection by 5 or so to make sure my picture fits behind the frame with no edges showing...
I copy my picture and paste it as a new image behind the frame, resize as needed to fill the frame or shape,
Selection>invert>Selection(making sure i am on the picture layer)>delete: This crops off the excess photo outside the intended selection.
If I want to angle the picture I have to so that before any selection is made or it will just angle the photo that is inside the marching ants...which makes for a not nice effect...

This image doesn't have a frame... I have done that before. This is just a bracket that has a matte behind it, so I was hoping to fill that shape with a photo. Confusing! Oh well, I'll figure out something else to do there. :) Thanks though!
 
You can do the same thing with just a matte-Just don't modify your selection and don't use the bucket fill. Just go ahead and paste the picture after you select the shape for the picture.Copy and paste the picture as a new layer and move it into the selection as you want it...invert and delete.

You can also make your own shape to paste the photo inside the brackets...I have done that before too.
I rarely if ever use the bucket fill tool-its too confusing to me.
 
Templates are the easiest to use in Photoshop, from what I've heard from team members...since all you have to do in there is drag your actual photo layer to the layer directly above the template photo layer and hit Ctrl+G (or Ctrl+Alt+G, depending on which version of PS you have).

I have never used PSP so I have no clue, lol...just from reading what my own team has said about the steps they take I'm like HUH? LOL!
