Easter Baskets?

My parents always jelly beans, reeses, fruit snacks, bubbles, coloring books, crayons, sidewalk chalk, airplanes, and other little things like that.
 
we try not to do a ton of candy. Usually we put a dvd (a little $5 one), some books, new toothbrushes, stuff from the dollar bin at Target, pens for Emma (she's obsessed with writing), and a few little candy things.
 
dollar stuff...jump ropes or outside toys too..cam got a jump rope last year that she looves, candy, dvd or books, little stuffed animal
 
Well we have all boys ... in the younger years we bought matchbox, hot wheel, or micro machines to put in the eggs we hid. When they got older we put dimes in the eggs...older...quarters. lol In the baskets we have put movies, fun t-shirts, puzzle books, a chocolate bunny (of course), a movie theatre sized box of fave candy, pez dispensers, and pez candy, card games...Beanie babies or other small stuffed animals.

My dilemma now is ... my boys DO enjoy Christmas stockings and Easter baskets but they are getting older ... how do you just suddenly STOP? I also enjoy stocking them ... my boys are 21, 16, and 14 ... yep a bit old for hunting ... but last year the two younger ones were out there hunting without a moment's hesitation. lol If we don't hunt...and don't have baskets...what do we do???
 
a little bit of candy; chocolate bunnies, jelly beans. i also have a bunch of plastic eggs that i put candy in and even change or dollars and hide along side the hard boiled colored eggs. Aidan gets matchbox cars, the girls get cheap lip glosses. i raid the dollar bins at Target pretty much.
 
Candy of course (some small things and always a chocolate easter bunny), but usually a spring outfit (from target..less than $10 usually and something we would have to buy anyway), some sort of toy/goody from the dollar store like a little figurine for her room or a picture frame, we've done little plastic cups, bubbles, spring wall hanging, travel game....all sorts of things..anything that catches my eye that I can use that would allow me to put less candy in the basket.
 
At my other work, I always suggest hair accessories and fun tights for girl's Easter baskets.

For Logan, my nearly 7 year old, I'm planning on doing a pair of sunglasses, candy, a webkinz Zumbuddy, and watercolor paints.

For Jacob, my 18 year old, I'm planning on doing a iTunes gift card, candy, and 2 movie ticket vouchers from costco.

It is a tradion of sorts that Easter baskets contain the new swim stuff for the year. There is usually a suit, a towel, possibly a cover up, goggles and a swim toy.
 
Mine are getting a leapster game, small candy, hot wheels for J and not sure what yet for Abs.

(usually i don't do a leapster.. but I got J a batman one for $5... LOL)
 
Candy (of course), a faith-based book, a toy (Easter potato head, Easter Barbie, etc), bubbles, stuff animal (not sure on that one though...we have enough).

Generally we let Rachel have her goodies when she wakes up...then it's off to church...out to eat...and then back home for egg hunts.
 
My mom still did a basket for me until my kids out numbered me :p Still just little stuff she'd see between Christmas and Easter. Of course its easier for a girl with soaps and lotions. I do shaving stuff and bath gel for my 17 yr old son.

We always use to have those little individual boxes of cereal (I don't know if they even make those anymore); granola bars; those packages of little bags of chips/cheetos; marshmallow eggs & peeps.
 
I have not done an easter basket for a year or two at least. The kids get a little candy from my in-laws though. Last year I did easter baskets the kids each got a new game for the gamecube (2007 was the year I think)

We got them from my mom until the first grandkid was born...my sister really screwed that one up LOL!!!
 
I do just about all of these things!!! and depending on the kid and age as to what they really get...I usually don't do alot of candy but my kids LOVE colored goldfish so they each get a bag of those {even the 17 y/o}!!!! and I TOTALLY agree on bubbles and little sunglasses~~~~
 
Mine usually get peeps which is the only candy I put in them. New crayons, bubbles, small cars, dvd, books, just small cheap stuff like that usually.

ohhhh great ideas everyone, thanks! I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOO tired of candy around here, and there are definitely enough ideas that I think I can avoid it! (at least... some of it!)

Oh please don't stop! I am 33 and my parents still do those things for me. They have changed it to be in a gift bag instead of a stocking or basket. I totally love it and I never want them to stop! :) I still love my new colors and coloring book! Of course, the candy is always something I enjoy too! :)
 
For my kids baskets (ages 18, 17 and 4), I put in pez dispenser and candy, a chocolate bunny, new colors and coloring book and bubbles. Then I add something for each of them that is different according to age....itunes gift card, a game, movie, ect. I try to stay away from lots of candy and stuffed animals.

All of us still get them from my mom.. me, my husband, my brother, my SIL. :)
 
A Chocolate cross, jelly beans, a book, kite, outdoor cheapy toys that come out in spring/summer (dump trucks/sand toys), big thing of bubbles, coloring book, stickers, puzzle, new bath ducky

We try to keep it fairly simple since the kids birthdays just passed. & I try to avoid lots of candy & any stuffed animal.

My brother and I are 30 and 36, respectively, and my mom still sends little candy packages for Easter because she enjoys it. She never stopped as we got older. And who am I to refuse some chocolate?!!! We just phased things out as we got older - first went the egg-dying and hunts, but the baskets remained for several years. They just got smaller. Now there are no baskets, just small packages of candy and an Easter card.

They don't have any moving parts (although not good for lil kids that might put it in their mouth!!) ... but they vibrate and move around ... they even sell "tracks" for them (lol) ... but my son put his in our laundry basket and it had a ridge in it ... and it followed around the ridge...

Just thought you might like to know about it! We bought ours at Target.
 
kidlets: mini tubs of playdoh or modeling clay, raisin boxes, cheese-cracker-dip-combo-pkg thingys, cereal bars, the required Matchbox/HotWheels, sm. spiral notebooks or sketchbooks, sm. boxes of crayons or paints, hair accessories, LEGOs, storybooks, sm. coloring books, bouncy balls and things to catch them, stickers, model cars/airplanes/trains

adults: chocolate eggs
