Easter Baskets - what do you put in yours?

I'm trying to come up with something fun to put in my girls' Easter Baskets. They are 10 and 14 now and the idea of stuffing it full of candy doesn't not excite me. I do stuff and hide about 50 eggs for them to find on Easter morning. In the eggs are jelly beans, wrapped candy and money.

So what do you put in your kid's Easter baskets? Just curious what others do and what kind of traditions you have for Easter.
 
I just picked up a few goodies for my kids today. Last year I got a little carried away and they got way too much stuff. This year they're getting a few pieces of candy, a kite and I got them each this blow up ball that you sit on and bounce that cost like 5 bucks. We are trying to focus much more on the real reason for Easter and so the Bunny is taking the back burner. I'm also getting them both new big kid Bibles that we'll give them on Sunday morning ( we do baskets on Saturday).
 
Cheyanne is 12 this year and she isn't a big candy kid so I've always put in her favorite popcorn (it's locally made and bagged), gum, a movie, and she gets a spring outfit for school - usually a pair of shorts and a shirt. She also gets stuff like nail polish, earrings, makeup, hair bands. This year she is getting her softball cleats and new batting gloves because she needs them anyway.
 
Let's see, this year for both (ages 5 and 8): flip flops, seed packets (to plant), silly 'goo', honey sticks, a book, gum, Cadbury creme egg

For her: a small Lego Friends set
For him: football cards
 
This year the kiddos (3, 4, 6) baskets will most likely be filled with:
fishing pole & tackle box
flip flops/sandals
A springy outfit
kite
age appropriate Bibles
coloring book, markers

I try to avoid a lot of candy and little things that just end up in the garbage.
Last year we did an outfit, beach towels, flip flops, coloring books, bubbles.
 
Mine is getting a little riding scooter thing this year that I got ultra cheap last fall and probably a kite and a little ball... and then in the eggs, I put in coupons for ice cream cones, pool time, lunch with Daddy, etc... he gets candy and coins from grammy...
 
I still have no idea! But, my usual basket filler is a chocolate bunny, jelly beans, a Cadbury egg, a book, some bubbles and a small toy for each of them. Nothing too crazy. I've over-bought for Easter two years in a row now... I forget how hard it is to fit everything into the basket. So, this year I'm going to do less. And I will be making them homemade treats for their baskets instead of the Cadbury egg and bunny.
 
The little one (age 2): book, small basketball, chocolate bunny.
The big one (age 5): book, movie, chocolate bunny.
 
MIne is 6.

Stuffed deer (that he fell in love with at a nice gift shop)
small lego kit
a little bit of candy (peanut m-n-m's)

Here it varies so much. I don't put a lot of candy ever. We usually have a family basket and a basket for each of the kids. The family basket contains the candy. I don't like the kids feeling like they can eat it whenever they want because it is in their basket. ;) They usually get a cadbury egg or something like that as their own, but that's it.

DD is 10, DS is 7. I've done themed baskets with outdoor toys, garden supplies, family games, etc. I've also done baskets with the traditional stuffed rabbits and toys from the Easter aisle. This year we are in simplify mode majorly. In the past week we've gotten rid of way more than I care to admit to. With us trying to get rid of everything there is no point in adding more, you know? DD is getting a new jewelry box that will match her new bed set. Her old one is tattered and also Tinkerbell which is what her room used to be done in so it doesn't match anymore. We'll throw that one out after she gets the new one. DS will probably get a new lego set. That is something that won't take up a lot of room. He has a million legos, like most boys his age, but he loves them so one more won't be bad. We've given away probably 100 pounds of books and I have twice that many still to go through (stacks and stacks!) so I won't add a book to their basket like I usually do. We aren't buying any more books... we'll just visit the library or get them for Kindle. ;) I can't decide what else to get them because they don't need anything.
 
Keira- Chocolate bunny, monster high doll, Easter outfit for her American girl doll, Artist sketchpad and colored pencils, chocolate bunny, bubbles, angry birds candy egg.

Cooper- 2 skylander giant, a Skylandar stuffed animal, the Same candy and bubbles that Keira got

Harper- a build a bear Easter bear, socks, & a bath bunny rabbit. And probably a new sleeper

I think I spent more this year than I usually do but I got keita that monster high doll for her birthday and then I found another set that I liked better so I had to do something with that one & now I Am saving the three pack of dolls for Christmas. Lol
 
A soccer net, color your own soccer ball and soccer bag which he needed for soccer and practice anyway. Plus a new movie, Cadbury Crème Egg, Peanut Butter Egg and Bunny Kit Kat.
 
My girls (3 and 5) are getting new dresses (not really in their baskets, but sort of count because they both love wearing dresses)
-nail polish, play jewelry, stick on earrings...I havent really thought it through yet! I dont think I will be doing a whole ton. Maybe a new CD or storybook.

Love the idea of the homemade treats. They get lots of candy and money from grandma and grandpa.
 
I haven't a clue!! Probably bubbles, maybe some small toys for outside, a new outfit, a book....and candy for me :)

This reminded me, Caitrin is getting an outfit for her American Girl doll. I bought it to give to her last Easter and then couldn't find it. I also couldn't find it for her birthday or Christmas. I discovered it right before Valentine's Day and decided to give it to her for Easter... just a year late. :w00t:
 
Mine will get things like:

6 year old girl: chocolate bunny, a book, new markers & colouring book, a spring outfit, Barbie clothes

3 year old boy: chocolate bunny, a book, new crayons & colouring book, spring hat, hot wheels car, a puzzle
 
well mine are 20, 12 ,7 and 5 LOL

20: (yep she still gets something from the Easter bunny:D) BluRay Back to the Future Set, some favorite candy, a piece of body jewelry she wants and a stuffed beanie baby she wanted LOL! I will probbably pick her up some flip flops and a few pair of earrings as well

12: got him a favorite book, some bubbles, a fun Lego Architecture puzzle, markers, Webkinz and of coarse some candy, UNO game, pj pants.....(will probably get him a tshirt of sorts as well)

7: puzzle, book, bubbles, candy, outfit, flip flip flops, socks (girl LOVES her some new socks :D), candy, small hello kitty alarm clock, Cadbury creme eggs, Mulan Movie

5: chalk, finger paint, coloring books, crayons, puzzles, finger paint paper, paintbrushes, pj pants

going to make them all "carrots" (plastic baggies filled with goldfish and tied with a green ribbon)


pretty sure I have more things, just can't think of them now LOL!
I get lots of fun little educational books and puzzles at the $1 store.....
 
In the eggs I only put clues to find the next egg... as my DD gets older the clues get harder :) (she's 8 this year).

In the basket that she finds in the end (and in a gift bag that we will give her from us too) I will be putting...

Some fave new books
headbands
fun socks
glittery belts
a Zooble toy
new jump rope (2pack)
new bubbles
dollar store clogs (instead of flip-flops this year)
a cute Hello Kitty fedora hat (!!)
and a few Kinder eggs and some bubble gum.
 
I usually spend too much! But this year I'm not going to, my girls are 10 and 8, my boy is 12, so they're getting harder to figure out what to get (not to mention that the things they like are more expensive!)

I saw a couple of cute things I know they'd like at Toys R Us, one is a tape dispenser with like 50 different styles of tape. Rae loves crafty things, so I know she'd like that. I also saw chalk for hair, which I think Amelia would like. Probably a couple of other small things, and that's it. They aren't big candy or chocolate eaters, so I won't get too much. Maybe a Barbie each, they still both love Barbie.

I bought tickets for a concert for Benjamin and was going to surprise him with them. We have to fly to Toronto for this concert. So I decided to just shove the tickets and air line passes in his basket instead of buying him anything for Easter. It was never meant to be an Easter gift, but I figured I'd present it that way.
 
Ella (3 years old):

Easter bucket filled with: 2 Dora the Explorer coloring books, a Dinosaur Train paint book, 4 Cadbury Eggs, Cinderella messenger style child's purse, Cinderella kite and baby doll.

Outside the bucket is a Dora the Explorer shovel and pail set for the beach and a Tinker bell art set. The set has stickers and a large roll of paper with Tinker Bell scenes for her to decorate, color/paint.

Of course we will dye eggs and do a egg hunt. We may hide a few coins in the eggs (she loves feeding her piggie bank) and a few candies too. She/we also got 4 new chicks and 3 ducks which were our Easter/Spring homesteading project. Thus far all are thriving and we are tickled. Ella already knows about these of course and is enjoying all of them.
 
My boys are all older (almost 21, 18, 14, 14) so we don't do the egg hunt anymore. I'm old-school, so my boys DO get candy and definitely a chocolate bunny. :) We'll probably do iTunes gift cards, food gift cards for the older boys, some money, and maybe new swimsuits. Honestly they have everything they need and even have their own money, so gift-giving is difficult. And the oldest's 21st b-day is 2 days later anyway
 
I love some of these ideas! There's always candy of course, but we try to fill it with non-candy stuff. Some fun clothes, accessories for my daughter, toys for my son, sometimes a DVD, iTunes GCs, markers or colored pencils (no matter how old they get, they still seem to need these), books. Basically, stocking stuffer kinda stuff. :)
