Early Xmas shoppers -- what about returns?

I know a few things already that I want to get the kids for Christmas and I'm starting to see some good discounts so I was thinking about getting them now. The one thing that's holding me back is the return issue. For example, as my DD's "big" gift, she wants one of those Flip mini-video cameras. They have a good deal at Walmart, but they have a 30 day return policy for camcorders. So, what do you do if Christmas rolls around and the thing doesn't work but you can't return it?

I'm curious how you early shoppers come to terms with this issue? Do you just buy stuff that you know you won't return, just buy from places with longer return policies (if there even is such a thing for electronics), or test things out right when you get them home, or what??????

Thanks!

Well, most places I shop at give you about 2 months to return. So, for the big items I'd probably wait until 2 months before Christmas. I'd check to see how long you have to return it before you buy it. If you only have a short time, I'd wait till closer to Christmas!

walmart usually gives like a month or two after christmas for returns. Only issue with that is you would be given store credit at the current price. I would just take it back and say it was a gift if I bought it that much ahead of time and it did not work. I would probably wait a little bit though because they will likely have a better sale

I don't know how long their return policy is, but Target & Best Buy both price match!

Usually if you tell them that it's a Christmas gift they just write that on the receipt (or have it on the gift receipt)
