Dual drive question

I have two hard drives on my laptop, both are 250 GB each. Currently, all my scrap stuff is on my C: drive, but I'm wondering, would it be better to move it to my D: drive? My thinking is that the computer uses the C: drive to operate, and it might go faster if I moved my 125 GB of stuff (ack) to the D: drive to make it run faster.

Anyone do anything like this? And did it work? My laptop is sluggish, but it has 4GB of RAM, so that's not the issue! I think it just has too much stuff on it.

TIA!

I have a desktop but it all works the same. I don't keep scrap stuff on my C: drive. I try to keep it as empty as possible for swap. So moving to your D: drive will help. Don't forget to defrag afterwards.

Jamie - that's how we have our desktops set up. Well, we don't have dual drives, but partitions within our mongo drives, so it's sort of the same thing.

I would also suggest you regularly run for adware, malware, and whateverotherkindofware programs you might have. Many times spyware causes massive slowdowns in your machine.

Defrag regularly!

Thanks Darcy...I do have the paid AVG that runs every morning, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware, and they seem ok for now. I have pictures on this drive besides my scrap stuff too, it's just SO full, especially after yesterday LOL

I agree with everyone....I would move your files to your other drive....and also make sure you have a nice scratch disk allottment for PS so that it can run faster.

I have dual drives too, I keep my scrap files on the non-windows drive. Make sure you run a disk defrag after you move your files. Auslogics has a great free program.

I've got 2 drives as well, and I keep just programs on my C:/ drive and everything else (well, not EVERYTHING...photos and digi kits, etc) on my secondary drive. I do save some stuff on the main drive, and transfer it over once a month or so. And back up to an EHD.

I moved it all to the D drive, and what a difference! Holy crap! LOL! Everything is backed up to my EHD, so that's not an issue, thankfully!

I will run the defrag now, when I go to bed. I'm so glad I did this!

I don't keep any scrap stuff on my main drive. We just got Time Capsule and I moved all my stuff over there as well as onto my EHD.

I hope you weren't moving large amounts of data at one time!! the tech guys that recovered my data after 2 ehd crashed ($700 for one drive) said don't move more than a CD's worth at one time!! Be sure you do scan disk and defrag on both drives!!
