Do Your Kids Play Sports?

I had 3 in soccer last year..man lol...my kids LOVE it but was a lot of work for mommy lol..Cam did gymnastics/dance too and Jase also does Karate..this year Jase is only doing karate and Cam is doing dance...Nic chose to not do anything b/c she wants to go to camp this summer.

I find it helps mine to really try hard in school and stuff b/c they don't want to lose their extracurricular activity (we take it away if their grades slip..)

My son plays football in the fall and he does wrestling in the winter. He's on the track team, but he pulled a hamstring so he's out of commission.

For those that don't like the competitiveness and just want their kids to play and have fun...check out the YMCA. My son has played on the YMCA leagues for 5 years (beginning of the school year he was with a different one)...and yes they have a scoreboard going...but if a team falls behind (30 points? 25 points?) they turn off the scoreboard because they want to emphasize the play and not the win. They demand good sportsmanship and the parents have to sign a "code of conduct". They also do not keep track of how many games you win or lose...so unless someone on the team is writing it down...you really don't know at the end of the season. ...and yes they were turning off the scoreboard for even the 12 yo teams!

They do have competition like in March I think it is...and you pay extra for it...you don't have to compete to get INTO it...just pay the fee...and you play until you lose twice and then you are out. ...it is all contained into a Saturday and Sunday.

The YMCA includes the jersey and an "award" for every child. Our seasons are 7-10 games long (one practice during the week and usually it is a Saturday game)...then you can sign up for the next "session"...so generally our team played from September to May...and they actually had a summer session but our team didn't play in it.

Just an fyi...we were very pleased with the YMCA...our son isn't super competitive and doesn't practice much...he just enjoys playing...and it was a great match for him.

Jackson plays soccer..he's now in his 3rd season. We play through the Y and it's great. The focus is totally on fun and it's amazing to see how much he's improved. (He's on the 5-6 year old league right now.)

Paul started t-ball two weeks ago - also through the Y. He had his first game last week and it was LONG and hysterical. Long because everyone bats each inning (2 innings in 1 hour)...hysterical because they don't have positions in the field and they all go for the ball and end up in a huge pile when they are fielding. He really enjoys it! :)

Alex has swimming lessons and thats it for now - though I'm looking into guitar lessons for the near future. He's 6 and puts soooo much effort into his school day, that if he did more out-of-school activities I think by the end of the week he'd be too exhausted to concentrate.

By the way is T-ball like baseball? Never heared of it before...

My DD took TaeKwonDo as a kid. She wanted to try it (we thought she wouldn't like it) and we signed her up. She trained for 6 years and is a registered 2nd degree blackbelt, lol. So much for thinking she wouldn't like it!
My Grandkids have all done soccer and baseball, but only ever one at a time and they had a lot of fun doing them :)

We started Derrick in T-Ball when he was 3. He's now 7 and is in his first spring season of Little League baseball. He likes it. He's not really passionate about any sport but he gets out there, gives it his all and doesn't get discouraged or give up. Right now its 1 practice a week and 2 games a week. And he'll play fall ball too which is only 8 weeks - 1 practice and 1 game a week.

He also likes playing basketball but mom missed sign ups this year. ;)

We tried soccer and he hated it. He could race Quarter Midgets (my parents bought him and my niece each a car and my sister and I raced when we were kids) but it's so expensive and my DH doesn't like racing so we haven't really gone there yet. He trained for a few sessions but wasn't begging to continue so I didn't push it.

And, he's too little for football so we won't be playing that.

I let Jaxon choose--- he's done swim on Mondays after school for over a year (we started to help with his low muscle tone). He tried tennis during the summer and wants to do it again this summer too.

In the fall he did t-ball, but this spring he wanted to try flag football instead.

I told him 2 things are it--- that's all mama can handle! So right now he has Swim on Mondays afterschool and flag football on Saturday (they do a practice and game back to back which is great). This summer, he'll do swim and tennis again, but even when he's not in school, I think 2 is plenty.
