Do your kids like 'smart' music?

We've never been big fans of typical kiddie music...but have found a few bands that have 'smart' kid music - They Might Be Giants, Laurie Berkner, John Lithgow, Trout Fishing in America, etc. This morning while catching up on some schooling blogs, I ran across this band, Beethoven's Wig...and we have had a blast listening to them this morning. They take classical music pieces and put wacky lyrics about the song/composer to the tune, then also include the classical tune on it's own...and we have found a new love.

Beethoven's Wig

(and sorry for those of you on FB that have already read this - I tend to gush LOL)

Oh, we'll definitely check them out... we're HUGE HUGE HUGE fans of TMBG and are always looking for new music... I swear TMBG is the reason Moriah knew her alphabet so early.

heck, I was a fan of TMBG before I had kids!! My older two kiddos are starting to get more into mainstream music, but the two little ones still like Laurie Berkner & TMBG.

My three year old would rather listen to Baby Mozart music than Laurie Berkner or TMBG. I sometimes wish it were the other way around. I worked as a nanny for years and have always enjoyed "smart" kid music. So in general we either listen to my music or classical. But I am going to check this out? Thank you for sharing.

:D Darcy I had to giggle at the Trout Fishing.. my friend from high school is a kids music performer www.funkymamamusic.com and she is friends w/ them, she went down there this summer and wrote a song w/ Ezra.. I saw that on your FB this am and was going to tell you that... :D

Oh, I'll have to check that out! I absolutely LOVE Laurie Berkner. I use her to make up my kid pandora station!

I'll have to check out those other artists. We all LOVE TMBG. Hubby has been a huge fan for a long time and bought their kid cds as soon as our kids were old enough to appreciate it.

Maybe I'm listening to a different Laurie Berkner 'cause what I've heard makes me want to pull my hair out (while jumping up and down to an obnoxious beat). I LOVE TMBG Flood album (from back in my college days actually) and have no idea what they've done since then.

I guess my kids don't do kids' music? We loved Veggie Tales and Phineas and Ferb songs now. Those are kids' songs, right?

LOL Krystal...we've pretty much outgrown Veggie Tales (sob) but PH&F rocks our house all the time (even when the kids aren't with us)
