Do you own a Drobo?

My son is talking to me about getting the Drobo S for data backup and I was wondering if any of you had one and could give me some opinions on it.

I had 2 external drives fail within days of each other ... $700 later for restore labor ... I got 90% of my data back. I couldn't keep a constant connection with Mozy to upload my 500 GB of data ... it took forever and was totally frustrating.

Just curious if any of you have experience with it ... comments??

Well Sharon, I will tell you that when I bought my Mac Pro, I had a consultation with one of their tech guys and I asked him about backup strategies and he highly recommended the Drobo. It is a pretty high power home system. You have to buy the Drobo and then all the drives that go into (unless you find a package deal)....so it isn't cheap. But they are always highly rated.

FYI - I am using online backup with Backblaze. I should be finished my initial backup tomorrow actually (it took about a month)....but Backblaze is getting good reviews as well. Maybe take a look.

I hadn't heard of the Drobo, but I recently started using a Western Digital My Book World Edition 1 TB Network Attached Storage and its working well for automated backups. I just wish it came in a firesafe case - I liked having my photos backed up online in case of a fire.

I had been using Carbonite for about a year, the backup speed was great, but after a software upgrade the software was causing too many problems on my computer and I had to uninstall it. I then tried Mozy, but it seemed so slow compared to Carbonite that it wasn't an option.
