I just finished Dear John to gear up for the movie (dd wants to see it..lol so I had to kinda preview it to see what it was about) anyways..I didn't LOVE the book so I hope the movie is good.

eek! I am reading it now..just started tonight..lol is it not good! I HATE a book that's not good. It really makes me depressed, lol

Exactly. I'd much rather they make a solid movie than try to include every little thing in the book. The first two Harry Potter movies were like that. I liked the later ones a lot more because they could stand on their own from the book.

But I'll admit, I was rather disappointed by the movie version of Confessions of a Shopaholic. That is my absolute favorite book series and while I think the movie was cute on it's own, it was absolutely nothing like the books. I would definitely have preferred them to be at least a BIT more like the original storyline.

i have to admt i couldnt get through confessions of a shopaholic. I think it just wasn my type of normal read but idk i did like the movie!

Another movie/ book i want to catch is the time travelers wife! Caught the movie already.

i hear my sisters keeper Was a really good read. Which scares me since i cried my eyes out in that movie!

I agree with everyone! Why make it a book to movie and change major things? Why even bother. Tho i understand combining and changing for time and realistic purposes

LOL, I'll let my avi do the talking for me.

yup, I have a bookmark that my daughter bought for me at her book fair that says this, cause she knows I am bound to complain about a movie based off a book that doesn't match up (Sister's Keeper, Twilight, etc - they were close, but they screwed some things up that annoy me).

Da Vinci Code was sooo different from the book but Angels and Demons was soooo much better (movie and closer to the book)

I'm glad to hear this! lol, I loved those books, and I finally rented Angels and Demons to watch tonight. I still enjoyed Da Vinci Code, but I liked the book better.

I answered that I don't expect them to be like the book, because they never are, but I always want them to be! lol. I still enjoyed Twilight and New Moon, but after reading the books, they seem rushed and like huge gaps were left out. I kept grilling my husband to see if they actually made sense to him with all the info they seemed to have left out - I'm like how can you enjoy it not knowing the whole story??? LOL. I understand that they can't put every little bit into a movie, but I'm still always a little disappointed.

I liked Dear John. I also just recently read the Time Traveler's Wife -- sooo very strange, but good. I'm hoping to see both of those movies (TTW when it comes out on DVD). A friend of mine who saw TTW but did not read the book said she was confused throughout the whole movie, so I'm hoping since I read the book that won't be the case for me.

I also really disliked the movie ending for My Sister's Keeper. The ending was what just made that book for me. I had heard it had a different ending, so I was prepared, but still disappointed.

I don't expect the movie to include all the details of the book. for one thing it would be too long and some the screen cannot capture things as well as our imagination. I also get when the movie adds a scene not in the book to conjure some aspects that are difficult to translate.

But when they add scenes at random it annoys me (HP 6 that battle at christmas makes me cringe) Also when charachters are exagerated or altered. Also when they waterdown the movie that it loses so much of the underlying theme (Twilight comes to mind)

Sorry for the essay

i'm one of the few who doesn't care. movies are always better than the book for me...because there's no reading involved. :p

so yeah, i'm not a book person so i guess i don't really get an opinion here.

I have shut off a handful of movies at home that I rented, but never walked out of the theater. Too much money spent to not watch it all.

When I was a kid we walked out once... but I think it was because the movie was inappropriate for us as children, not because it was dumb.

I don't go to many movies so I haven't walked out.

I never expect the movie to be like the book. One of the worsts was Eragon! Which is probably why they haven't made the others into books... they ruined it.

There is one, I can't remember what it is now, Star something maybe? Anyway... we liked the movie better than the book... the plot was slightly different--it ended different, but we really liked the movie much better.

I'm starting to think it would be better (for me at least) to watch a movie and THEN the book.. less room for dissapointment I think?

I looved the book the time traveller's wife and was SO excited for the movie - so excited in fact that we rented it in our hotel over the holidays. I was so dissapointed. It felt like a cliff notes version of the book - just went from point a to b to c and the characters didn't really evolve or anything. I was just kinda meh over it. Which sucks because I LOVE rachael mcadams.

I have seen the previews for the lovely bones and it doesn't even make me want to go watch it. I read the book about 7 years ago but yea I'm not interested in seeing it on screen.

My sister's keeper was good.. but I can't believe how they changed the ending!

I expect it to follow the book but there are apt to be some changes or things missing (aka Harry Potter books) ... but the woman was rude to be making comments and ruining YOUR viewing of it. I think movies should end the same way as the book...otherwise why call it the name of the book...just make it a different movie and give it a new name.

We like to read the HP books and then go to the movie ... come home and discuss where we saw the differences.

BTW I voted wrong ... meant to choose option 2 but my caffeine hadn't clicked in yet.

I've never walked out of a movie, but we don't see that many movies. I know that I don't go see movies because of hype anymore. We wait til the real reviews (yahoo real people reviews) come out and get recommendations from family/friends. I saw AI on the opening weekend and it was pretty terrible. Won't make that mistake again.

I would totally agree with you Sarah on Eragon. Probably one of the worst books to movie ever. They completely ruined it by making it so short plus they changed the story so much that they could never tell the stories of the books that followed. We actually purchased the DVD for my boys because they seemed to like it ok, but I've never watched it. So so weak!
