Do you celebrate Halloween?

We don't celebrate it here in Australia, for me it is an american tradition that has nothing to do with us. In Germany where the season was the same as in the US I liked to carve out a pumpkin as a decoration. But to me it was more a fall deco than Halloween. And here in Australia it is the opposite season, spring. You pay big bucks to get those big orange pumpkins. I have done it as well as a little decoration and we have had some trick or treaters. I let my kids dress up if they want but we are not going out trick or treating.

well, we always do something and the past 4-5 years we have a good friend that has a very fun Haloween themed party {everyone is invited...it's not a scary thing at all}...she has done a pirate theme, haunted hollywood {my family went as the Wizard of Oz...DH was Dorothy}, halloween in general and this year the theme is Monsters vs. Aliens...my kids really enjoy dressing up and walking around and seeing the friends dressed up...so we really enjoy Halloween and as long as my kids want to celebrate/trick or treat/dress up, then we will be out and about on Halloween night

we have always done trick-or-treating but this is probably the last year if we even go this year. My daughter turns 18 in November and has not trick-or-treated in several years but said she wants to this year because it is her last year as a "kid" LOL. My son who is 16 has not wanted to go in probably three or four years. My youngest is 12 and alternates between wanting to go and not wanting to go. I dont really enjoy going because it is usually really hot out and the houses where we live are so far apart so we either go somewhere other then where we live or only go to a few houses.

we only started the past couple years. my kiddos got old enough to understand that we don't "celebrate" it per say but rather take the night to dress up and get loads of free candy. lol we also only go to people we know in the neighborhood. if the offer to go to a harvest type festival arises, we will do that instead of trick or treating.

I 'get' you Lizzy, but I had to laugh. My 2 yo is old enough to understand 'dress up and get lots of candy', lol!

We view it just like we did when our kids were toddlers and wanted to "dress up" like a fireman (which our youngest went out as a fireman at least 2 years in a row!)...it's just a fun dress up time and play fun. The kids have been M&Ms, Scooby Doo, Sponge Bob, Power Rangers, a Bear, and lots of other fun things. They also had Halloween parades and parties at school. ...nothing was ever viewed as 'evil'...it was just dress up fun...enjoying it...

...alas this year marks the end of 20 years worth of dress up...as our Robotics competition is on Halloween and we will be traveling home from Ft. Smith during the trick or treat time....bummer...

we do not for religious reasons. Both of us were raised like that and the kids seem fine, lol! We buy them all kinds of candy throughout the year so that's no biggie. We do the pumpkin patch thing and just celebrate Fall on our own without the trick or treating or scary stuff.

Luke dresses up and goes trick or treating at relatives and down my parents' street, where we know the people and it's safe.

He's only five, so we don't have any costume issues, yet, but when he starts to have more of an opinion, I won't let him dress in gorey or scary things- no ghosts, witches, horror film characters, frankenstein, vampires, etc. I'm okay with skeletons b/c, well, that's what's inside of us! LOL

We usually go to the zoo's trick or treating, too.

My girls go to Catholic school and they actually allow the children halloween parties - of course, the focus is on the fun side - nothing gory or anything like that. We also live in an area where just TONS of people come out and trick or treat....it is just so fun and you get sooooooo much candy! However, the last couple years we have been enjoying actually trick or treating at Disney's California adventure - the girls really score there!! lol.

We don't celebrate it bcause we live in a country that doesn't celebrate it. I would love to dress mmmy kids up and take pictures and get to use cute Halloween kits every year, lol.

When we are in the States, though, we''ll dress those babies up and go to all the carnivals we can find!

On a side note, my dad works in public office, and he hates Halloween because it brings out all the crazies!

We don't celebrate the holiday in a scary way... just a fun chance to make fun treats, dress up the cutie pie, and get some candy! Our church does a trunk-or-treat so we'll take Allie to that. I don't decorate though... I'm too cheap for that. lol

yep we do here. I don't have kids so usually we just do a fun stuff at work, then a party with our friends, and maybe go to a haunted house. We hand out candy when we get kids that stop by.

Last year we took Lukas to a theme park for Halloween, they were open until 8pm and had dark rides. This year we are looking to do that before Halloween (they run the event for a few days before and a few days after) and go to a different theme park for the massive fireworks display. Nan usually gives out loads of sweets to the neighbours kids, and I have let Lukas dress up every year and help if he wanted to, he's been trick or treating once I think and that was just in the street, just had no interest in doing it. It's not so much of a big deal here though. Hugs Crystal xx

We celebrate it I guess. I don't decorate or anything for the most part because I'm lazy. We had cute little pumpkin lights, which I can't find since we moved, that I'd like to put up. I'm more of a "cute" halloween person. We do usually carve a pumpkin (or three LOL), and perhaps draw some pumpkins to put in the windows. I don't find scaring children very fun, so we tend to stay away from that kind of thing.

My kids dress up and go trick or treating, and that's about it. If there are any parties at school or anything, then they do that too, but since we're at a new school this year, I'm not sure if they do anything like that there.

We always used to trick or treat as kids, we just dressed up and got free candy. Mom didn't really decorate or anything either. I'm not religious, I never was, I just think this is how I'd like them to remember Halloween, as fun stuff.

For us, Halloween means costumes, pumpkin patches, and candy. I don't really connect it with evil or religion, just a fun day for the kids to play dress up.

The kids' schools do costume parades or costume-free parties. One of our preschools gets around it by having the kids dress in pajamas for their "Fall Festival" (always held on the school day closest to Halloween).
