DNF

The chat with Kelly tonight got me thinking about the pages that we do not finish. Maybe you just weren't feeling it or decided to go in a different direction, for whatever reason certain pages just don't make the cut.

I love showing the nitty gritty side of things, so for the sake of transparency... here are a few of my pages that never made it past the finish line.

Do you have pages that you've abandoned? Do you ever revisit them, or are they banished to the back of the hard drive forever?

I'm opposite. I feel like if I don't' like it, I just start again or finish it anyway & chalk it up to not my best work, but that's life. As I've gotten older (wiser?! ha doubt it) I have come to accept not everything has to be perfect. Just like me, full of flaws is "normal"! ;)

I feel the same. I set it aside for as long as I need, then I come back to the project and change anything that bothers me or revise the layout. Often it's not perfect, but sometimes it's also the starting point for my favorite pages. And maybe with the age too lol I agree with you Amie, I think flaws is « normal ».☺️

I either finish the page or abandon the attempt and start over completely fresh. I try to stay on top of my scrapping so having a half-finished page would keep me from being able to print. Yesterday was 2 pages made (both of which are not my best work but they're done and off my to-do list!) and one that just never took root. I didn't even start so I definitely didn't finish 😅 I'm going to circle back to it when I have a better idea what to do. I made placeholder PSDs in my album folder so I don't mess up my page count and now I can just do something else instead.

I have some I haven't started but didn't finish, but they are mostly where I was scrapping with a lot of photos, so I put some of them on their own layout/canvas to kinda weed them out so I didn't have a 2 page layout with 100 photos. They are there, saved with a "title" but just photos on a blank canvas. I will eventually go back and actually scrap them.

As far as layouts started but not finished, nope! I rarely trash a layout, even if I don't like it. I am like Amie, even if it's not my favorite page done, it's another layout finished!

I can honestly say that I don't have any unfinished digital layouts! Sometimes I find layouts that are unfinished, but they are just ones that I reworked or finished with a different name that I forgot to delete. Now, if you ask me about cardmaking, sewing, paper scrapbooking, and counted cross-stitch, you bet there are DNFs and WIPs. Oh, and I have one official book DNF. I do have some hard copies of books with a bookmark, but I should get real and know that I will have to start those over, because I'm sure I don't remember what I read, especially years later. LOL

I don't have any DNFs. I record every layout process, and I think that's what keeps me from having DNFs. I make decisions based on my gut feelings and just go with it. I don't record my journaling process. There are times when I've journaled that I needed to move something or change something out, but overall, it's just done. Wait! I do have a double page of Olivia and her Webkinz. It's just got the photos on a canvas. But that's it.

Like @lizziej , I have DNFs for cross stitching and books. I used to force myself to finish every book, but now with my age at 55 and knowing that I might have another 20-25 years of my life, I just put the book down and move along to something else. I might circle back to a book as I find that sometimes my moods really affect how I perceive a book, so often giving it a second try later one helps.

With cross stitching, I had a lot of DNFs and I decided one day that I was going to finish them. I have several pieces that are done but not framed, but at least they are done! I have one DNF cross stitch project that was Gone With The Wind related that had an error in instruction. I'm just going to start completely over as I don't want to waste my time pulling out all the stitches. I was so upset about it that I just put it away. I'm nearing the end of one cross stitch project, and I'll try the Gone With The Wind project again on new fabric.

If I don't like how a layout is going I toss it and start over. I don't save layouts that I have second thoughts about. I save layouts and finish later, though.
