Defog...before or after?

I'm not good at photo processing, but do have a question....if I want to use some photo actions, should I wait to defog my photos after I run the action to see what the outcome is, or should I defog first?

Darcy, I always defog first before anything. Then if I have an action that I'm using that has sharpening in it I just turn it off if it looks to be to much!
