Dear Whoever introduced me to groups,

ColleenSwerb

Brodo gettin her Swerb on
I flippin love you! Grouping my layers has made life INFINITELY easier!

Thank you so much to whoever you are! (Sorry, I can't remember, lol!)

All my undying love,
~Col

Corey, if you highlight layers on your palette and hit ctrl-g, it will place them in a folder on your palette and "clean it up". They are awesome!

Like linking, but way better. You can do it Sheri's way, or click on the folder at the bottom of the layers palette. You can name the group whatever you want (like title, BG mats, etc) and then drag whatever layers you want into the folder. When you "close" the folder, it hides all the layers inside of it. Makes for a wonderfully clean layers palette, AND it helps me remember which layer is which without having to rename each one (which takes up space in the file and makes it bigger).

LOL :p I hate grouping. I have to do it when I make layouts for Smilebox and I really don't like it. I'd much rather link stuff! And just curious, why are you renaming your layers? (and suddenly i am feeling like I don't scrap enough... can't keep up with you youngsters! LOL)

Nonnie I explained it here. I'm not sure if you can do it in PSE or PSP, cuz I use CS2.

Linking stuff doesn't clean up my layers palette the way grouping does, lol. I like a clean layers palette so I have to scroll through it less. I sometimes rename the layers (instead of it being layer 52, it's red ribbon or whatever) because I get confused with what layer is what. Especially when it's a small or thin element and you can't really tell what it is from the image in the layer palette. And for when I'm doing shapes or working with templates, it's easier to group so I don't have to merge my paper layer with the layer I'm clipping it too. I can leave that til the end (or not do it at all), since I just put it in a group and then "close" the group.

Side note: I'm sure that grouping takes up space just like renaming layers does, but it cleans up my palette and in case you missed it, I really like that feature :)

I started doing it too and it is SO helpful. I do all my shadows at the end and it really helps me do shadows too.

Pretty sure you cannot do this in PSE. I only know because I tried un-grouping some layers on a template (a cookie, I think) and could not do it. :(

Exactly!! I shadow at the end and everything gets it's own shadow layer. So with some of the more involved layouts, holy cow is it a lot of layers! Grouping hides them so pretty :)

Oh I love grouping, I do it CONSTANTLY. On almost every LO, my title is grouped because all the induvidual alpha layers get to be SO confusing!

Oh man, I wish I had read about this yesterday...the candy layout I did last night was killer..I kept complaining about it to La...groups would have made it so much easier. LOL, oh well...I can't wait to try this next time...

I do this all the time, and LOVE it. I don't like to scroll down my layers pallet to see everything, and this really helps, particularly for titles or for element clusters I don't plan to take apart LOL
