YAY! I'm so excited because I missed this last time and it seemed like SO much fun! It begins again Jan 4, 2009.

Sorry if someone already posted this, I looked a bit, but didn't have tons of time to dig in all the threads!

I was trying to decide if I wanted to try it this time, but if that's the start date I am definitely out! DD is due on 12/25, so I think I'll be just a bit too busy this round.

Oh I did the very first one of these that they did a couple of years ago. It was so fun!

The short version is that you team up with a friend and run the "Amazing Race" together just like the tv show. There are different "stops" along the way (a stop is a digi store). Each stop has a different challenge, and there is a prize involved for all of those who complete it. Sometimes the stop requires just one or the other partner to compete; sometimes both have to do it.

At the end of the contest (it usually lasts a few weeks), everyone who completed all of the stops gets entered into a drawing for a grand prize. At least that's how the winner was chosen when I did it; it may have changed by now.

It's a lot of fun though!

My partner and I won the grand prize last year (GO Electric Harmony!)- so nothing will beat that- but it is really fun even if you don't win the drawing and you get completion prizes along the way. Unfortunately a few of the prizes didn't come through (but NDISB tried very hard along with me to get those sponsors to make do with their promise), but the ones that did were GREAT prizes. It was fun to challenge myself with different scrapping styles, etc. Plus it introduces you to sites you may not know yet...

In fact, that is how I found SSD (and now you poor girls are stuck with me!) :) I'd say try it!

I do believe I was a grand prize sponsor last year...something like a $25 GC for each winner :)

Yeah- I got a ridiculous amount of SSD GC $ to spend (and boy was that fun!) That was the best prize in my opinion.

It was my first time to ever visit SSD and how quickly I was sucked in! :) Once I saw the great quality designs here, I knew this was where my money was going to be going from now on.

I have a question, I guess they have a certain thing you have to scrap? And do you have like a week to complete it? Is it sort of like that?

Yeah, Jamie, that's pretty much it. When I did it, there were 2 challenges per week, and you had until the end of the week to get them turned in. The challenges ranged from specific topics, to techniques, to certain products that had to be used (not like *this kit* so much as "3 ribbons, 2 patterned papers, and 1 alpha"). Every store that sponsors along the way gets to set up their own challenge, so it can be just about anything.

Ooooh that sounds like so much fun!!!... but I don't know that anyone would partner with me, being so new and all. *shrug* It should be fun to "watch" though. :)

the contest is not really a competition exactly because you are not judged at all on the amount of experience you have or how "good" a layout is/isn't. Everyone from very experienced scrappers to newbies are able to compete. I started in March of last year and did the second ADSR in September so I only had like 3 months experience at the time. I did the third one this year in March so I had about a years worth of experience then. My partner this time was a designer and the first time it was a girl from myspace who was in a digital scrapbooking group with me. When the time gets closer they will have a partner search at NDISB (Natural Designs In Scrapbooking) and you can ask for anyone to become your partner and respond to those who are searching for a partner also. I dont think there was anyone who really wanted to be in the race who was not able to partner up last time. We had over 200 teams this last go round

some of the challenges were really fun last round and definitely stuff I wouldn't do normally.

don't know if I have time to do it this round though.

My favorite challenge was the hodge-podge challenge at Elemental Scraps. It was alot of fun!! I had to take my favorite designer and use certain things from that designer. It was tough but soo much fun!!

Oooh, that sounds like so much fun! Can you use products from any store? Like if the challenge was hosted by a different store, could I still use SSD products for that challenge?

One of the "rules" is that you don't have to buy anything to participate. The challenges were pretty open ended with specifics only for TYPE of product, not designer or kit.

and at least one stop provided a freebie for their challenge for those who might not have that particular kind of element (i think wings).

I will not be doing this one. I did the first one but it wasn't really my thing. I'm not a very good 'on demand' scrapper. There were a lot of things you had to scrap that I normally wouldn't scrap on my own and the prizes the first time around were a lot of things I'd never buy or use (I hardly downloaded most of them) so I decided not to do the second one. Granted if I knew there were SSD g/c's involved I may have! ;)

I'm not either, and with my mojo in the toilet at the moment, I just don't want to commit, and end up bailing on my partner because I suck.

I'm not sure when/where the signups are, so hopefully I have a bit to think it over, and see if my mojo comes back LOL
