CS6 help, please???

So I recently upgraded from PSE to CS6. The upgrade was mostly for photography, but I am excited about using it for scrapbooking too. I am so used to PSE that I didn't think the switch would be so hard.
Anyway, my question is:
How do you get everything that you have opened (papers, alphas, elements, etc.) where you can see them at the bottom of the screen. I can see that they are open because there is a tab for each one. But I can't see them at the bottom so I could for example drag a paper on to my template.
My only options at the bottom that I can see are mini bridge and timeline.

Please Help!

do you mean like the bin? If so there's no option except bridge, mini bridge, or you can use windows explorer (pc) or finder (mac)

If everything open behind each other? You can minimize each one if that helps then they should be on your toolbar or dock.

Did it open in tabs? Can you screenshot your screen and if we understand better what you mean then I'm sure somebody can help :)
 
Hmmm... not sure. I'm using CS6 but I don't drag my papers in that way, I have the folder with the elements open beside my Photoshop window and I drag them in from there. I know I've heard people mention using mini bridge, but it's so much easier for me & my mind to just open the folder where the kit is and have that open the whole time I'm scrapping. It takes up space, but I have dual monitors, so my second monitor has the folder open on it all the time.

In PSE, when you go to file>open, you open an element, then it shows up at the bottom of your screen. Then each time you open something it shows up there so you can see everything open at one time.
 
I just use my Bridge (not mini bridge) ... I have it sized to fit nicely beside my CS6 and I just drag and drop from there. I do it this way, instead of mini bridge, because I don't like the way mini is set up and I much prefer the way I have my full size bridge set up, I can see everything, etc..
 
You can keep mini open and see it all at the same time... it's kind of the same as the 'bin' but better, really. Mini can now be put at the bottom.. so it resembles the 'bin' .. or you could put next to your layers panel.
 
so I need to put all my scrapbooking stuff (kits, templates, etc.) in bridge. I wasn't planning on using bridge because for pictures I use Lightroom and then PS. Is there any other way?
 
I don't put my stuff in bridge.. I just put my stuff on my EHD and then I use bridge to point to the EHD and bring up my stuff. Im not sure if that makes sense.. it does in my head tho.. lol

you are open in tabs..go to
Photoshop
Preferences
Interface
uncheck open documents as tabs
then you can just drag one of your tabs to your ps space and it should untab them all. If not just close them and reopen they will open separately HTH
 
That's the biggest adjustment that PSE users have to get used to when they upgrade to PS... losing the bin... tho it didn't take long to get used to not having it... the key is finding what works best for you whether it's bridge or just having a windows folder open next to it


I split my monitor in half and have PS on one side and my windows folder on the other side and drag from there... The best thing about that is that because I don't have so much open, I've never crashed in PS, like I always did in PSE9

The bin was one of the reasons I resisted PSCS5 for like 2 years!! :D Then I got a tip here about mini bridge. Here is what it looks like in CS5...but in 6 you can put it at the bottom just like the bin.

But I'll be honest....I only scrapped with it for like a week!! Now I just select everything I want on my page (I use ACDSee...but you can just open your folder in windows) and drag it onto my canvas.
 
I do it like Heather described. Just keep the window of the folder where your kit is located open and you can drag your papers and elements straight over into the layout from that. I will take a screenshot of how to do this in a bit. I'm not on my computer right now.
 
I used another company's program before switching to PS, but it also had a bin and the lack of it was the hardest thing to get used to in PS. I did get used to it, and I don't miss it much anymore. The closest I think you can get is if you let your mouse hover over the PS icon in your taskbar. (I may have the name wrong, but I mean the strip across the bottom of the monitor that shows an icon for every open program.) If you only have a few things open, it pops up a preview of each. If you have too many things to fit the previews across, it shows a text-only list instead.
 
I just toggle between screens using hot keys. I've never liked drag and drop. I can definitely see how it would be difficult to go from a tray though.
 
I really like using the Mini Bridge. But, obviously, everyone has their own system, and you just have to figure out what works best for you.
 
I use mini bridge going down the side, but at any given time I also have a few files open in PS that I haven't added to the LO yet. I try to keep the number low enough that I can preview them all by hovering over the PS icon, but sometimes I succeed and sometimes not so much. I know some people drag everything they might use onto their canvas right away, but that doesn't work for me. I like to add things one at a time when I'm ready to place them.
 
I drag and drop everything...I guess since learned that way it has never bothered me :) and I never had PSE :)
 
I split my screen too - I can pull anything into PS when I need it, but I also stick everything onto one page --- File > Script > Load Files Into Stack.
If your computer can handle large files, then this can be an option for you. After I run the script, I just open the template that I want to use and drag & drop all the elements & papers onto it (I group elements and group papers to keep things minimized when I want that -- Ctrl/Cmd + G).

Anyhoo - then I use my layers palette like the bin, if that make sense (I hope that all makes sense, lol).

Another thing I do, when I want to use my entire screen only for CS... is I have resized my bridge to fit perfectly over the area of all the panels - so when I want something from the kit I am working on (or to find something else in another kit) then I just click my bridge icon on my doc (Im on mac) and when it pops up it's snug over my panels but I can still see my layout itself to the left. This way I can just drag n drop right onto my layout from bridge, but keep the benefit of my entire screen for my CS, because once I click on the layout, the bridge goes away (it's really just falling behind the CS..out of sight).
Im working on a pretty large screen though (45"), so I have the benefit of space so using both CS and Bridge side by side really isn't an issue usually.

Losing the bin was weird for me too at first (especially because in CS3/4 you couldn't drag and drop straight from Bridge onto your layout, and there was no mini bridge).
