Crushes... kid style

Zach is my first child to rock his first crush (Bella not counting, cause, well, she's three) and the whole thing is cute, but also terrifying! He made his little crush a valentine for tomorrow and he is so excited to give it to her and all I can think about are worse case scenarios of her or his friends laughing at him and making fun of him.

How on earth do you handle this?! It's like panicy-panic panic attack here.
 
Ah, well at that age (5th grade?) I would just let it play out and be there if he comes home crushed. When Cheyanne was that age there were a lot of boys in her class who crushed on the girls and sent them special cards and even carnations on Valentine's Day (her school has a fund raiser where they sell carnations for $1 and you can order them and have them delivered to who you want - white ones for friendship, pink for secret admirer, and red for :wub: She would come home with several carnations (I'm waiting to see how many she comes home with today! LOL)
 
awww.... so cute... :wub: my 5 year old is a ladies man... so I've been dealing with crushes since he was 3... haha... we had to have a little talk about that it's not okay to kiss people that isn't family (or Caroline, godfather's daughter that J still crushes on and calls his girlfriend)...

I hope that the other boys are also crushing and they don't give your son a hard time... and I hope the girl has a heart and isn't mean about it...
 
My daughter had a huge crush on a boy in her preschool class when she was 3. She told everyone she was going to marry Jake when she turned 5, after she got her ears pierced and cleaned her room. :D Thankfully, that was her one and only crush so far and she's 10 now. I'm sure it's coming as she is in 5th grade now and headed to middle school next year, but I don't look froward to it!

My son is in 1st grade, 7 years old. Last year a little girl in his class had a crush on him and kept writing him little love notes. It embarrassed him, but he never said anything negative to her about it. This year he doesn't have any crushes and the little girl who liked him last year still likes him but is in a different class. He had a couple of little girls crushing on him earlier in the year but I haven't heard much about it lately.

I know my boy is so much more sensitive than my girl so I can't imagine how it will be when he has his heart broken for the first time. I hope that's not for many, many years... I told my kids they aren't allowed to like the opposite sex until they are 16. LOL
 
I was worried because my oldest daughter had crushes in pre-K and on, I envisioned a boy-crazy wild child in my future BUT it didn't happen. She's 14 now and she's had a couple of "boyfriends", she's not allowed to date yet but she's had a few of those {I declare you boyfriend/girlfriend, texting, eating lunch and walking to class type relationships ;) } I'm amazed at how mature she's been handling those and their dissolution. Now she's in high school and she's got the greatest attitude regarding guys. She's rad, really.

My youngest DD is way more reserved and never showed much interest in boys but a class mate and Justin Bieber hit her radar. So cute. She's way too shy to let her feelings be known.
 
My 9 year old has his first "girlfriend." I didn't know he had any interest in girls until his teacher showed me a note he wrote her a couple weeks ago. Two days ago, he decided to tell me about her because he wanted to get her a little something for Valentine's Day. I tried to be very nonchalant and not make a big deal out of it. He went so far to say that he was nervous about telling me :) I'm curious to see how his day went, but not worried because I know she "likes" him, too.
