Cringe-worthy

Avery pulled out his baby book last night and I hadn't looked through it in a long time. I'd added some "scrapbook" pages I'd done the first few months after he was born in 2005. Oh they were so bad...like SO SO bad. And was there like a huge bottle cap trend in 2005 that I've blocked out b/c there were bottlecaps on all those pages lol. Oh and shadows on my text...like HUGE floating off the page shadows. I wish I had them on my pc just to show you how bad they were.

It's funny to go back and look at those :p

Oooh I feel ya, Nikki. My first pages were paper-scrapped, and they were HIDEOUS. That was back in the day where each page had to have a theme (think "Berry Cute" or "Just Ducky" complete with strawberries or little yellow rubber ducks. LOL)

My first digital pages in 2006 were ok design-wise, but the shadow work almost makes them laughable. LOL

LOL-my oldest pages go back to March 2004. Lots of very fake looking elements. I think my favorite is the all-digital twill ribbon :) But I usually don't cringe when I look at my oldest pages. That's where digi was then, and I just marvel at how far we've come. Want a laugh? Here are some from my first few months of scrapping. I was SOOO proud of them at the time!

I can remember finishing a page back then and showing them to DH and feeling so proud. But like you said it's where digi was at the time too. It's amazing how much it's evolved over the years.

lol Valerie, my old paper scrapbooks are so funny to see now too! I can't imagine ever making a digital that looks like what my paper did back then!! :D

Rachel, those look a lot like my digital pages from the same era. :) You know, we worked with what was available and that WAS cutting edge at the time.

I still love some of my first digital pages and I love some of my paper pages but there have also been many over the years that made me cringe.

OK Im gonna show my first page LOL. It is soooo bad!!

I did not do 12x12 back then. And it was done with a scrapbooking program I believe. Pretty awful huh?

Oh yes, I do cringe at my first pages from '07! Yikes!!! I am so tempted to re-do them, but then I realize... in 5 more years I will think these pages I'm making now are awful. :p So, I might as well love them the way they are and move on. LOL!

I have re-scrapped a page or two but in many cases its to give more info on the story, better journaling more so than the style of the page.

Here's my first one... December 2004....

Definitely cringe-worthy. This was done with me knowing NOTHING about Photoshop though. I managed to resize my picture without distorting it at least. ;)

Notice there are NO shadows. LOL

What I hate is that I don't scrap in chronological order so some of my old horrendous pages are next to my new pages! Hard to look at, but I'm not sure what to do about it because I'm not going to rescrap them!

I don't put things in to books chronologically. At some point I will get it together enough to be able to do some chronological books but I have older books of scrapped pages (shutterfly albums, so no moving pages around after the fact) and I have newer ones. I don't reprint the older pages in my newer books. If I want a picture from that time frame for whatever reason, I scrap a new page. :)

Here's my second layout... attempted some shadowing here...

I remember those bottle caps! lol Mine were awful, too, and the old paper scraps. Remember how great those scissors were that left silly edges.

Sherri--I think I recognize both of those kits, and I probably still have those stitched labels on my EHD! (I couldn't bear to part with a few of my early faves, so I kept a folder of those supplies. Lots of early Gina Cabrera and Shabby Princess there.)

I don't scrap chronologically, but I put pages in albums chronologically. Luckily I have finished the albums from my first couple of years of scrapping, so I don't have my very first page next to a page from 8 years later. I think the oldest one I have still in play is from 4 years ago, and there are only 2 or 3 pages I still need to do for it. But yes, in all of my albums there's a range of scrapping styles and skill levels. Oh well!
