Crib tents?

Has anybody ever used one? Did it work? Noah is crawling out of his crib. He's 16 months old! He's very tall for his age. There's no way we can move him to a big bed yet. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Oh goodness!!! I used to work at Babies R Us and I had never gotten a complaint from them. I am sorry I can't help you more...Looks like you have a monkey on your hands!

Oh, he is definitely a monkey! We never had this much trouble with Kaitlyn! He's been trouble from the second he was born and his lungs didn't work properly. We should have realized it was a sign. :D

Mine is really tall too but luckily hasnt even thought about getting out (he is nearly 22months)

I hope you can find a solution for it. All of my friends just moved their little ones to a toddler bed when they started climbing out. My neice slept on a kinder cot since around 17months because of climbing and that worked well for her.

I've heard they're pretty great. Cam started crawling out of his at 19 months so we moved him to a toddler bed. But 16 mos is pretty young (so was 19 mos) so I'd go with the crib tent. Just be sure to check recalls just in case. :)

We had one and LOVED it. We mainly bought it because of our three cats...I didn't want them in Rachel's bed. Rachel's very tall as well (95th percentile), and we had her mattress at the lowest possible level, and we never had a problem with her being able to climb out of the crib with the tent on it.
She finally got to the point where she could stand up and unzip it on her own...at which point we removed it...thankfully she didn't start climbing out!

Our youngest is a monkey too. He's been climbing out of his crib since 18 mos. Never had this problem with our oldest! He uses his feet to grasp the rails and climb out...he really may be part monkey.

I am caving in and putting him in a bad because I am terrified of the tent and what he would do to it!!!!!!!

I have a bunch of monkeys at my house. My older two kids crawled out of their crib just past 12 months. And my 3rd at 18 months! I thought about the crib tent, but in the end I thought they were kind of pricey! And I thought that it might scare them to be zipped in. We have used both toddler beds and a guard rail on a normal bed. The toddler bed worked the best. Their rooms of course were baby-proofed and we used a baby gate in the door. They adjusted pretty quickly--but seriously I envy the people whose kids don't climb out. That must be SO nice.

Tracie, Dean is such a little monkey too!! He's been climbing out of his crib since about 16 months as well. I really didn't worry too much about it because I watched him do it a few times and he was really quite good at it!! (seriously, I'm not psycho...it was amazing how safe he looked and I'm a total anxiety-prone Mom about safety). But eventually it started getting annoying. I didn't do the crib tent because to be honest I don't like the idea of my mobile child being confined like that. I know this is really paranoid, but I think of things like fires and I liked the idea that if I couldn't get to that part of the house, Dean was capable of getting out of his crib and at least having a chance of getting out of the house! This is probably because after I was considering the crib tent I had a nightmare that our house caught fire and Dean was trapped in that stupid tent and I couldn't get to him!!! I know, kind of weird.

Anyway, he will be 2 on Saturday and we just got a twin bed this weekend. Now I'm living a whole new nightmare of no sleep!!! I know we're only 3 nights in, but he is not sleeping well. It's getting better, but man I want that crib back!!!

Good luck!

Keira started climbing out of her crib at 12 months, so we used one for over a year with her. Loved it.

We put a tent on C's crib when she was about 14 months...several times each night we'd hear a loud thump and her screaming. She was climbing and falling out of her crib every. single. night. I couldn't take it. So we got the tent and she loved it!!! It took her one night to get used to it. In fact, don't tell, but she's 3 and still sleeps in her crib with her tent most nights!!!! She just loves the security in there. She can zip and unzip it now, so it's not to keep her in anymore, she just likes it. Seemed expensive at first, but we've gotten so much use and peace of mind from it. Totally worth it. :)

We had one fro DS1 from the tme he was about 4 months old, to keep the cats out. At 16 months he figured out if he wiggled his finger down in the corner where the zipper was, he could push the zipper up and making an opening to climb out, which was way more dangerous than just climbing out. We put a couple cushions on the floor and left the side of the crib down after that for a couple months then moved him to a toddler bed.

We moved L.J. to a full bed at 14 months with rails on both sides so we never went through the climbing out of the crib thing. But...a friend of mine used it from 12 months to about 2 years when her son figured out how to get out of it and she loved it.

My little guy was the same way and so we moved him to a toddler bed - he could get out of a pack and play too, and he's a shorty!
I am using a toddler bed from Ikea and love it - it's low to the ground and extends as he grows longer (right now it's about like a square the width of a twin bed if that makdes sense). We went through a lot of hard sleep transitions because of the switch and other things but he is now going to bed on his own (he just turned two). Naps are more of an issue because he wants to just play in his room.
I know that doesn't help with the questions about a crib tent, but just wanted to let you know what we did for our little monkey. Good luck!

I used one with Abby almost from the time she was born until she was 4. More to keep the cat out than her in, but we had no problems with it at all.

A GREAT BIG EMPHATIC YES TO CRIB TENTS! lol...the VERY first time DS climbed out of his crib he fractured his arm and was in a cast for 4 weeks. I bought a crib tent and it is seriously the best purchase I ever made for him. They are very well made and he ended up sleeping in his crib til right before his 3rd birthday and he was a big strong kiddo and still couldn't get out of it. I'll be putting it on the crib as soon as this one starts pulling up.

Nikki, that is what I'm sooo afraid of! I can just see him breaking his arm or something worse. The stinky thing is, no one around here carries them. I'm going to have to order one and wait for it.

i have never even heard of them!! how cool is that?!?! sounds like they rock!

hijack: nikki...when you poppin out your kidlet? :D

Oh it was a nightmare and scared me to death...I didn't see him fall but it was that kind of crying where you KNOW something is wrong kwim? And he was so little that he couldn't tell me what hurt when I got to him. After going through that with an 18 mo old you kind of wonder why crib tents aren't standard or something...it's just too dangerous when they're that little and start to climb out. I learned my lesson the hard way ya know? I had to order mine online too...I got mine from onestepahead.com

Aww, that breaks my heart! Poor guy! That must've been terrible for you guys!

I called Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and they'll order it for me and let me use the 20% off coupon that you're only supposed to use in the store. :D Yay!

Aubrey would climb out of her crib before she was 12 month old so we had to buy a crib tent and it worked good. She also figured out how to unzip the thing too so we had to pin the zipper! LOL! But I think the tents work great!
