Crazy hobbies...

Does anyone else have a hubby or s/o with a crazy (to you) hobby???

I know it's not really crazy per say, but DH has been really into surfing lately. He used to surf all the time when we were dating and in the beginning of our marriage, but fell away from it when the kids were littler. Now he has a new long board and is heading out now for the second time this weekend.

Surfing makes me nervous. Sharks are in the waters around here, from high rise hotels and condo buildings you can see them in the deeper waters just off the coast. Shark attacks do occur, usually to... surfers. :p And, we know the more dangerous times to surf when it comes to sharks is in dark gloomy weather, or during/after a big rain storm. WELL.... it's gloomy out right now. And it's pouring rain. But, DH has no fear. In fact, he wants to take the kids sometime. Ack!

I don't get dangerous or risky hobbies. I think I'll stick to digi scrapping where a paper cut isn't even a concern!!! LOL!

Oh, and I just had to add... yesterday when he got home from the beach he said he thought he was going to die. He had to paddle back in and thought he was going to puke. I guess the ocean was really rough and he was super wiped out from paddling out.

Please tell me why this sounds like something you would want to do AGAIN on Sunday??? :D

lol! John skateboarded for years. After the last time he got injured, broke his board, and had to miss work because of it I said no more. Normally we're all for letting each other do their own thing when it comes to hobbies, but the money spent on skateboards can get ridiculous.

Yeah... Aaron does skateboarding, too. But not as ridiculously as he once did because he realizes he is getting too old for it. LOL! :p But when it comes to surfing, I really don't want to wait until he drowns or gets bitten by a shark to say "I told you so". kwim?

Yikes... wouldn't catch me out surfing... haha...

Luckily (?) my hubby is boring... however I think his radio hobby is crazy... crazy in how worked up he gets when he listens to other djs and they do things wrong - however I don't notice what was actually "wrong." Dave is getting better... when we first started dating (the guy changed all my radio presets in my car to his "approved" listed on our 2nd date)... when we would go anywhere... he would research which station had the highest listener-ship... and then we could only listen to that station... then when the dj started to talk, all conversations would have to stop and there had to be complete silence... at one point it got so bad, that we would have to go in search for the radio station's towers... like the building would be open... haha.

Now he is obsessed with collecting flight miles... he reads all the blogs and works all the credit cards... he did his first mile run a few weeks back... Hmm... that might be crazier than the radio thing... haha

Eeek! Deep water, waves and sharks are all huge fears of mine! I'll stick to digi scrapping, thanks! ;)

My hubby's "crazy" hobby is just collecting license plates. Fortunately, other than taking up a distressing amount of space in the basement, it doesn't cause issues.

I WISH my hubby had a hobby!! He is such a recluse. Before we were married, he used to rock climb, mountain bike, snowboard, skateboard, etc. Guess how many times he's done any of those things in the last 13 years . . . ZERO!! I would love it if he would reconnect with some of his old buddies and go out to do some of those things he used to love. It would be good for him, and it would make me feel less guilty when I take time away from the family for my hobby(ies).

Of course, I wouldn't want him to go all crazy and start spending all his time and money doing any of those things, but I do wish he would get out more and do something for himself. :)

my hubby's crazy hobby would be sky diving, thank God he stopped. There was an incidence where he landed in a sugar cane field....that stuff is NOT soft! Then there was a time when he landed in a field of cows... they did not like that and it may or may not have induced a stampede. The last straw was when his parachute failed and the back up got stuck. .... yea he is just not meant to be flying through the air I think.

Sharks would freak me out. Luckily DH's hobby is only risky to his blood pressure. He gets way too invested in his favorite sports teams. He's getting better with age, though, able to keep it in perspective (somewhat, LOL).

This is mine too although I think it's worse on my blood pressure listening to him yell at the TV :P

I know a lot of you gals ride, but I hate that hubby rides his Harley, it makes me super nervous every single minute he is out.

The hubs once floating the idea of getting a motorcycle, he liked the idea of biking out by himself. Then he experienced the utter joy of swearing at motorcyclists on our main roads and ha how quickly THAT idea was trashed.

My SIL is a total surfing and mountain climbing nut. She said the thrill comes from fighting/playing with mother nature.

Sky diving! :w00t: Oh, lordy... I can't think of a more crazy hobby than that!!! Just... crazy! I'm so glad at least DH doesn't enjoy heights. LOL

Steve does all kinds of stuff........scuba diving, RC plane flying, gun range shooting or competitions......the list goes on. He doesn't have a ton of time to do all he wants but he loves it when he can! The gun stuff is probably his biggest hobby. I have no idea how much money is invested in it. I don't mind though because I enjoy it also. :) He is really big into competing in speed shoots though.
