Cradle Cap?

Neither one of my girls have had cradle cap...until now. Madelyn is almost 20 months old and has a rather large patch of what I'm assuming is cradle cap. Is that odd? I know I've read to use baby oil and a fine tooth comb to get rid of it, but would that work even at this age? Help, please!

Both of my little ones had it.

We used T/GEL shampoo by Neutrogena when they were younger...recommended by our ped.....you just have to make sure not to get it in her eyes because it isn't tear free!!!!! It worked great!!! We were told to use it every other day b/c it could stain their hair...they are blondies and the shampoo is really dark!!

My niece had cradle cap when she was about that age, so it's not unheard of. :) My son had it when he was around 6 months and we did the baby oil and fine-toothed comb thing. I used a soft baby brush on it sometimes too so I could kind of scrub it off. That worked pretty well too for breaking it up.

at that age you can use a dandruff shampoo (just be careful obviously as that shizz stings the eyes bad).. like selsun.. or.. head & shoulders etc..

my baby had it (like, at a few months... all my girls did) and the doc said to use selsun blue shampoo. he said it's better than baby oil.... but uh, we did the baby oil thing and it worked for us! :) but she probably has more hair and it's kind of gross, i'd suggest the selsun blue!

yea baby oil is all I ever really used for it. My son would get it even when he was older I think because he didnt wash his hair really well (he got it up til he was like 7 or 8?)

My baby just got it, and I was able to clear it up just by washing her hair more frequently and combing it out. But I did read that olive oil works to soften it up, too, and then you can wash & comb it out.

My daughter had it on her head, and on her eyebrows. I massaged in some baby oil and that took care of it. just make sure you wash it off with babywash/shampoo really well because if you leave any oil on there, it'll cause the cradle cap to get worse.

Good luck :)

thanks gals! We bought some T-Gel today so I'm going to try that. I didn't realize it was something that "older" kids could get. Me and my tiny little mind :p

yeah my older kids get it all the time. Especially my boys who for some reason find bathing to be not so important and I have to yell at them to take a bath. Even the baby oil/olive oil thing works on them.

My kids all got it, and we used baby oil. Now that they're older, they still get the occasional patch, particularly if we accidentally miss a bit of shampoo or something in their hair. If she's 20 months old, I think the TGel will do the trick.

my kiddo had it when he was a baby... but he had so much hair that the baby oil didn't work for us... so we, too, used dandruff type shampoo... that cured it.

You know, now that people mentioned Selsun blue....we bought that too after we ran out of the T-Gel....it worked too and was cheaper!!!

I used the T-Gel last night and a fine tooth comb when she was in the bathtub and it's mostly gone this morning! I was wondering, do you think it could be that I'm washing her hair too much? I normally wash it every other night. Maybe I'm not getting the soap out all the way?

I don't think every other night is too often, but if she's getting cradle cap, try cutting it back to see if it makes a difference? It couldn't hurt to try.
