Could I manage

LOL - oatmeal, which we both love but I've learned a lot of people don't, but this is really good :)

Place 2 sliced apples, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, pinch salt in the bottom of the crock pot.
Pour in 2 cups of oatmeal, 2 cups of milk and 2 cups water.
Do NOT stir.
Cook overnight for 8 - 9 hours on low.

AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing! I am going to try these with soy milk. I <3 oatmeal made with soy milk. Or almond milk.

Sounds interesting!
I've made oatmeal on the stove many times but never added sugar. If I try this in the crockpot can I just exclude the sugar or does it do something beside making it taste sweet? I never use sugar unless I'm making dessert.

I actually use sucanat as a substitute for brown sugar since I don't use refined sugars but I figured most people don't have a clue as to what that is so I put brown sugar in the recipe :D It just sweetens the apples and makes it a bit "juicier" since sugar melts into liquid. I would just add a bit more liquid.

Also, crock pot heat varies!!! I just bought a new crock pot last week and made this for the first time since I got my new one and it is HOTTER! Thank goodness I got up early today and turned it off after 7 hours or it would have burned on the sides! So if you have a newer crock pot I would advise shorter cooking time of 6-7 hours.

Thanks for the recipe. We love our oatmeal here. I must try this soon.

This is SO true. I can't stand my new crockpot for recipes that are supposed to cook all day. Everything is being overcooked. :p I read that the thing to do for overnight or all-day recipes is buy the new timed crockpots that will turn off or go into 'warming' mode after a set time. Ugh... I just can't bring myself to buy another one since, technically, my new one isn't broken.

Uggh, same here Brook - I should have splurged and bought one with a timer this past week  Oh well, at least I usually only sleep 6-7 hours a night so I can save the oatmeal. I'll have to watch the things I cook for supper during the day though!

I'm gonna use almond milk too
and my crockpot cooks fast as well blah
luckily I don't sleep much (haha) so I can check on it before I finally crash and turn it low or to warm

Thanks for your reply!
Even when making dessers I often use stevia instead of real sugar. But I also try to cut out sugar completely when possible. I just think it's unnecessary to get used to everything tasting sweet.
